1972 Triumph GT6. Manual with overdrive.
I have to be honest with myself, I’ll never finish this. With 4 other project cars on at my house something has to give and I’ve decided it’s this.
I used this as my daily for a couple of years and it was a great car. I then took it off the road to tidy it up as some old work on the sills and some other repairs were really starting to show their age and it’s constantly been sidelined by other projects, as I can’t help myself when I see a bargain.
It’s got a good history file for all the good that is on a 46 year old car. You are much better coming to view before bidding to see what the car is like.
The chassis is good. I’ve recently sanded and painted it where there was surface rust showing up to the engine bay but will need tidying up further forward than that. The main thing is though that the chassis isn’t rotten at all.
It’s recently had new sills & sill strengtheners on both sides.
I’ve just put in a new N/S front floor and done some repairs to the rear floor. I’ve repaired the N/S boot floor and I’ve fitted a new rear leaf spring.
The O/S boot floor is rotten. It’s by far the worst part of the car.
There is bubbling on the ‘A’ pillar and a bit of rust around the top of the windscreen, again I can send photos.
The bonnet is good underneath but a bit rough on top, having been repaired there in the past by a previous owner. There is a bit of rot at the bottom of the N/S wheelarch.
Rear wheelarches are good but will probably want a new O/S rear wing bottom. It’s solid but it was repaired by a previous owner quite badly. I've got a repair panel that I've not got round to fitting yet. All the inner wheelarches are good and don't need any repairs.
I got the car running today with a new coil and condenser. It does drive but the brakes will probably need work, so it can't be driven any distance but can be driven onto a trailer.
Reading this, I’ve probably made the car sound a lot worse than it really is. From looking at some of the cars that have sold on here over the last few months this is in pretty good condition and will hopefully be a relatively easy project for someone.
It also comes with a set of alloy wheels. If you search for ‘Triumph GT6, COPPER BRAKE PIPE KIT, NEW’ on Ebay , seller philip_tuck14nb4 is using a picture of this very car (in a slightly darker blue) with those wheels on in his listing. They need a clean up but will come with the car.
If there are any parts of the car that you need photos of please let me know, I’ll be happy to help.
Obviously, collection only.
