1981 A rare Aston Martin V8 Vantage Manual For Sale
A rare 1981 V8 Vantage Manual in Cumberland Grey with Black hide, very original with great history.
Since the introduction of the AMV8 in 1972 the potential to get more power from the Aston Martin V8 engine soon became obvious as did the demand for a ‘Vantage’ version of the standard saloon. With revisions to camshafts and valves, inlet and exhaust manifolds, carburettors and spark plugs, a power output of close to 400bhp was achieved! A massive increase over the 325bhp of the standard V8!
Unlike previous ‘Vantage’ models where a more powerful engine was fitted to the standard car, the V8 Vantage became a model in its own right with improvements to drag and stability and enhancements to braking and suspension. Drag was reduced considerably by blanking off the grille and bonnet scoop and stability improved by the addition of deep chin and boot spoilers giving the car a distinctive appearance over the standard version. The V8 Vantage became the world’s fastest accelerating production car at the time and is widely regarded as the world’s first supercar!
Only 342 examples ever left the factory and as such these cars are very rare and have become highly sought after in recent years.
This V8 Vantage first left the factory in March 1981 and was one of only 80 RHD cars fitted with the new V580 engine. First registered to a Mr MacLeod it has enjoyed just 6 owners with the current keeper having owned it since 2005, and although very original it has been exceptionally well maintained throughout its life. It has a well-documented comprehensive history with all servicing and maintenance carried out by either HWM, R S Williams, Ian Mason or D J Smail, who have looked after this car since 2002.
