For sale is this very original example of a 1973 MG Midget RWA. Currently showing 15,450 miles on the clock, although this may go up as I intend to use the car occasionally in the coming weeks.
The car is well presented and a joy to drive, having been well cared for and maintained throughout its life. There is a large amount of service history and MOT certificates dating back to 1990, and including the original purchase invoice. The shell is in exceptional condition, requiring neither a restoration nor repairs at present. Some repairs have been carried out in the past such as replacement sills and work done to the A pillars, doors and wings, but they have been done to a high standard and look completely original. I have recently had some marks and blemishes on the bodywork rectified, but decided against a full re-spray as the paint for the most part was in good condition and required minimal work to fix. The original factory coating under the car still exists for the most part, and is still performing well.
The interior is unrestored, yet it is in extremely good working condition with only a few marks and blemishes here and there, a reminder of the years of enjoyment this car has had. A wooden steering wheel has been recently fitted and compliments the car well, but I will include the original Moto Lita leather wheel with the sale. The hood ideally requires replacement due to a couple of repaired holes in the windows and some damage where it is attached to the rear of the vehicle, but it does not leak badly and is functional with no major damage. There is a full tonneau cover in very good condition still in its original bag to go with the car. Recently, new door locks were installed as the old ones were worn and loose, but they will be included with the vehicle.
Mechanically the car is very good and currently has an MOT until 2nd May 2020 with no advisories despite being MOT exempt. The rear spring shackles and pads have been replaced with polyurethane bushes, along with the front anti roll bar bushes. The remaining polyurethane bushes for the front of the vehicle will be included in the sale, but were not installed due to the good condition of the front bushes at the time.
All the tyres are in very good condition with good tread and no uneven wear. The car comes with a spare set of rostyle wheels that have been blasted ready for restoration or powder coating.
The engine and drivetrain has recently had a full service with all fluids flushed and replaced, the carburettors set up and balanced and the valve clearances adjusted. The only noteworthy weak points are the heater tap, which has a slight weep and a couple of slight oil leaks from the rear main oil seal and the gearbox output seal area.
Also included in the sale are a set of mud flaps, a boot rack, a full fitted car cover and a working second hand starter motor, along with a few other bits I have such as a spare sealed beam bulb and some hardware and fasteners.
