1954 BSA 500 Gold Star For Sale

First, this is not an original Gold Star, but it’s all BSA and has all the best sought-after components and looks indistinguishable from the real thing. It has a 1960 DBD34 engine in a 1954 B31 frame, but with rear-set frame lugs as per a Goldie. It has an RRT2 gearbox, 11/ 2 GP carb, 190mm front brake, Alfin rear brake, alloy rims and a Taylor Dow Superleggera top yoke.

I bought it last year as a non-runner intending to do a full restoration, but although I’ve tidied it up and it now starts easily and runs well, I haven’t got the time or inclination to bring it up to concours condition. Unusually, it’s been converted to 12v but using the late BSA single’s practice of using a crank mounted alternator and coil ignition (BSA Police spec A10s also used it).
The bike had been standing for a time (the last tax disc is dated August 2015) but had been owned by a BSA enthusiast and appears to have been well maintained, in fact I have the deceased owners detailed workshop notes from 1989 to 2008 showing all work done.
As it happened, it didn’t need any major work to get it running. I drained the oil and cleaned out the oil tank and filters. I also fitted a new alloy sump plate and magnetic drain plug, stripped and cleaned the sticking Triumph clutch (looked like nearly new Surflex plates), stripped and cleaned the GP carb and set it up. I also tidied up the wiring, fitted a new 12v battery, fitted a new petrol tank, taps and pipes, a new throttle cable and twist grip and added a prop stand.

The rest of the bike was sound, just needed a good clean! The guards, seat and rear shocks look virtually new and the tyres unworn. No wear showing on front fork sliders either.

The paintwork is not brilliant, but nothing is dented or damaged! Perhaps needless to say, the mileage is not genuine, but it does have a nice registration: SUM 595! I’m afraid it has to go, so if you’re interested, make me an offer!
