Introduced as the company's first foray into the 'Super-mini' market, Ford's all new Fiesta made its first appearance in 1976 with its design being penned by Tom Tjaarda, known more famously for exotica from Ferrari and De Tomaso. Initially taking on competition such as the Fiat 127 and Renault 5 the Fiesta proved a success, with models to suit every pocket from the base / Popular models, through to highly appointed Ghia and later sporting models such as the Sport and XR2. Still in production today, some 43 years later, the seventh generation of the humble Fiesta shows that fun can still come in small packages.
Ordered by a Ford employee on the 23rd June 1984 this delightful Mk2 Ford Fiesta Ghia has only had 4 keepers over the 35 years and shows a highly credible 65,000 miles and comes with the following specification:
1.1 litre with 4 speed manual.
Finished in Glacier Blue metallic (Optional Extra)
Savoy fabric interior finished in blue.
Remote control drivers door mirror.
Tilt-or-remove glass sunroof.
Electric tailgate release.
Full instrumentation, including tachometer, trip recorder.
Ghia Wheel trims.
Approaching this delightful classic mk2 Fiesta it's easy to see that this car has been well preserved and remains highly original, with only a few areas that have been repainted and to a high standard too. The Glacier Blue metallic paint has lovely shine, is free from any scuffs, dents or fading. The bumpers, Ghia wheel trims are free from any scrapes, the driving lights and rear light clusters remain clear and damage free, she really could pass for a much newer car!
Stepping inside and the same can be said for the interior too. The blue velour seats have maintained their colour (no sun-bleaching) and remain very comfortable with no bolster wear and we just love the fact that everything inside the car is as it was from back when she was delivered in 1984; the factory radio / cassette, the working digital clock, the original parcel shelf, door cards and dash all remain perfect, the interior really does show very little wear and on opening the boot compartment we wonder if there's every been anything in there.
This lovely story continues with the cars mechanics too. The 1.1 Kent engine starts instantly (one can't help but smile as the 'choke' knob illuminates when pulled for cold starts, though it rarely needs using) and she settles into a sweet idle. The car pulls away cleanly and despite her modest power, she cruises comfortably on A-class roads with supple suspension, good brakes and a pleasing exhaust note. Her recent service records indicate that she has been well serviced too with various reciepts for new tires, a new Weber carb and recent exhaust system and she's just been issued a new MOT (valid until March 2020) with zero advisories too.
Whether you're a child of the 80's, someone looking for something retro or simply someone looking for an affordable classic we really think this Ford Fiesta 1.1 Ghia is capable of ticking all the boxes and is sure to provided miles and miles of smiles.
