1928 DELAGE DIS Sports Four Seat Special Tourer Finished in French blue with pale tan leather trim and hood. This beautiful vintage running example with two famous owners has covered a mere 53000 miles in its 90-year lifetime. The car was originally owned by the famous racing motorcyclist Stanley Woods – winner of the Isle of Man TT race 10 times and 29 Grand Prix wins, who then sold it to Lady Valerie Guinness via her father. He well understood the dangers of driving at speed and was concerned to sell the car to a young woman (despite her being a VSCC and VMCC member). In turn the car was given to her son Rupert Guinness. The car remained in the Guinness family ever since and has been in storage for a number of years, so recommissioning is required. A new battery has been fitted and it starts and runs very well. In the 1900s Delage became hugely respected as motor car manufacturers, producing exotic racers and refined tourers. We believe around 38000 Delage motorcars were produced until 1953 when the factory closed. Very few still exist, making this a rare car indeed. It is right hand drive and is road tax and MOT exempt. Registration number YV2754, chassis 24714. We are informed that this car was transformed from a fabric bodied saloon to a sporting four seater special around 1946, a common occurrence at this time. The Austin A70 engine was fitted in the 1950s, however the car retains its original manual gearbox. If an original engine is required, we feel sure that the Delage Register of the Vintage Sports Car Club would help. Features: King of the Road period headlamps, wing mirror, soft top and hood cover, badge bar with Delage Owners badge, leather trim in good vintage condition, engineer turned dashboard and 20 inch wire wheels. History folder includes: current and previous V5s, photocopy of the original buff logbook, Spring 1968 copy of VSCC Delage Register Journal (in which this car is listed), previous MoT certificates confirming the mileage of 53000 miles from new is correct, MOT related paperwork, DVLA correspondence, old tax discs, photographic images of the car, Owners Handbook, much correspondence from the Guinness family, other correspondence, write up on the car, lubrication chart, insurance documentation, invoices for upkeep and envelopes etc. This is a very rare car indeed with the added provenance of 2 famous owners only from new. Delage DIS Tourers are being sold in excess of £100k making this a very reasonable example. It is in an eminently drivable but delightfully original and unmolested condition, worthy of a vintage car collection or vintage car rallying. 07785500990 or 01202 7094079
