1971 850 Sport Mint! For Sale
Could this be the Coolest Classic you’ve ever seen?
The 850 Coupe is a scaled-down Dino in terms of styling. It was powered by an uprated version of the saloon's 843cc engine too, upgraded to 903cc from 1968. Rear-mounted and water-cooled, it gives the baby coupé a decent turn of speed and its light weight contributes to the car's excellent handling abilities.
ABOUT THIS CAR
Sporty and quirky, these were the first cars under 1000cc car to do 100mph. There was a small number of in NZ in the early 70s and very few have survived in top condition.
Purchased by previous owner in 1992 with about 43,000 miles on the clock. Car was in good condition then, colour light green, registered and used as a city runabout for 3 years.Had some rust removal done for WOF compliance (bottoms of doors, sills in 1993)
Had one full engine reconditioning (1994) and was regularly serviced by a Fiat mechanic in Christchurch (850cc watercooled). Then stored undercover in a shed with occasional running.
Restoration conducted in 2009-10 by retired mechanic and vintage enthusiast (Ashburton Vintage Car Club). The car was fully stripped back and rebuilt after it was kept in storage for over 20 years.
Focus on body repaint and interior, with a full strip down, repairs and reassembly.
Full reupholstery and new carpet, walnut dashboard strip added.
Approximately $10,000 was spend in 2009-10: mostly paint work, re-upholstery, new carpet, new battery, tyres replaced, some suspension parts, tuning etc, registration process and making roadworthy (i.e. full labour costs not charged)
It is now being presented in excellent overall condition and runs very well.
