We are delighted to present for sale probably one of the rarest RHD Alpina on the market. This iconic car is in turn key condition have recently completed a comprehensive restoration and recommissioning. The list of works completed is comprehensive and was done using 100% original parts, retaining and refurbishing the original parts wherever possible.
Ercole Spada has designed some of the most iconic cars in the world. In 1960 he designed the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato. He is responsible for various Alfa Romeo, Rover, Volvo, Ford, Ferrari & Lancia designs. He was also responsible for the design of the BMW e32, considered by many the finest 7 series of them all.
The e32 was produced from 1986 to 1994 when it was replaced by the e38 but it in 1988 Alpina took the BMW 750i and perfected it producing the Alpina B12 5.0. They increased the performance of the 4988cc V12 engine from 300bhp to 350bhp at 5300rpm. Maximum was torque 470Nm at 4000rpm. Some 305 examples were produced by Alpina. There were reportedly just 7 UK RHD versions produced, including 2 RHD iL limousine version.
The 155mph speed limiter was disabled, unleashing the power of the now modified engine. Bigger valves, high lift camshafts, a raised compression ratio of 9.5:1, along with modified Bosch Motronic M1.2 management modules for each cylinder bank one control unit with electronic grid-controlled ignition and grid-controlled air mass dependant ignition; fuel supply cut off, automatic adjustment idling control, fall safe running properties and defect memory for sporadic malfunctions, electronic engine power control, engine mounts with hydraulic damping.
All this resulted in two tonnes of metal being able to hurtle along 0-100kmh in less than 7 secs and Alpina’s modest claim that it reach in excess of 275 km/h, that’s more than 170 mph. Boasting a standing start kilometre time of just 26.4 seconds it was the fastest large saloon car in the world, with a fuel consumption ranging from 33.8mpg to 15.3mpg, depending upon how hard you pushed it.

Light alloy engine block
crankshaft running in 7 bearings
two light alloy cross-flow heads each with an overhead camshaft
two valves per cylinder with hydraulic valve clearance compensation
light MAHLE-aluminium-pistons with Ferrostan coating
forced lubrication with oil filter in main stream
thermos-controlled engine oil cooler
speed dependant viscous fan with additional thermos-control 45142
The exhaust system was mainly stainless steel 6 DEGUSSA 3 way catalysor with the latest, low resistance EMITEC metal catalyst substrates & 2 heated lambada probes. Along with the engine modifications, the exhaust produced a subtly louder, sportier sound.

The standard ZF four speed ZF automatic gearbox was modified, tightening up the torque converter to bring more forceful gear shifts. ZF automatic with 4HP 24 EH, with convertor lock up clutch and a stronger converter. The final drive ratio was 3.45 with limited slip differential, 25% locking effect.

The front suspension had double joint-spring strut axle, Bilstien gas pressure shock absorbers. The rear had independent wheel suspension with semi trailing arms, level control system, with Fichtel & Sachs spring cylinders, stabilizers front and rear.

Donor cars supplied with the superior EDC (Electronic Damping Control) were modified further only by the fitting of Alpina suspension springs. UK supplied 750i models were also fitted with Anti Slip Control as standard, offering the ultimate in handling if in conjunction of EDC. These were the rarest of all e32 B12s. B12 MPH is one of these vehicles.

The Servotronic variable-ratio steering was modified to give less assistance at low speeds and more at high speeds, resulting in exceptional steering feedback when travelling at high velocity.

The legendary staggered Alpina alloy wheels were very light weight with lockable light alloy die-cast covers. The front wore 8.5J x 17 H2 with Michelin MXX 235/45 ZR17 and the rear 10J x 17 H2 with Michelin MXX 265/40 ZR 17. The grip on the road was phenomenal.

Body modifications were subtle. A body coloured front spoiler, a slightly smaller Alpina steering wheel, front & rear Alpina badging, optional Alpina Deko Set pin stripes, Alpina logo speedometer dials and Alpina dash plaque and key fob. The uninitiated would be ignorant to the cars spec, if they were lucky enough to see one. Inside the car the interior was replaced with front sports seat in the now famous Alpina Nappa leather. It is a very special place to sit.
