The styling of the Simca 8 Sport comes from Italy, and to be exact, from Stabilimenti Farina, not Pinin Farina, although the latter is at the origin of the styling.
At the beginning is the famous Cisitalia 202, presented by Pinin Farina in september 1947. After a first batch produced in-house, Pinin Farina delegates the production of the Cisitalia to the Stabilimenti Farina, and Vignale.
Simultaneously, Battista “Pinin” Farina gives the authorisation to Giovanni Farina, his elder brother and head of Stabilimenti Farina to create a small series of convertibles inspired by the Cisitalia lines, based on the Fiat 1100 S chassis. Giovanni Michelotti and Mario Revelli de Beaumont are the authors of the styling.
The story goes that Henri Pigozzi, head of the french marque Simca, discovered, on a visit to Turin, the prototype of the Stabilimenti Farina Fiat 1100 convertible and decided to add it to its range, as a flagship model : after all, Simca was the french subsidiary of Fiat and the Simca 8 was the adaptation of the Fiat 1100. As Stabilimenti Farina were already busy producing the Fiat, and, more important, as import taxes in France would have been too heavy, the production has been entrusted to Facel. At the time, Facel was the leading company in France building pressed steel bodies. Jean Daninos was a talented engineer as well as an industrialist very aware of things to come in the domain of special bodied cars : in 1947/8, he was also a frequent visitor in Turin, because he was preparing the launch of another car, styled by Pinin Farina : the Bentley Cresta ...
