This is an original factory built international six days trial bike. Only 100 were built by apprentices in the competitions dept. And 19 are believed to have been imported into the uk.
A recommission rather than a restoration. I found the bike in 2018, complete & original with very little wrong with it other than cosmetic issues caused by 40 years of use & storage.
I decided to work my way through the bike repairing any defects I found & dealing with cosmetic issues sympathetically. I didn’t want to destroy the patina of this wonderful old bike but did want it to be safe & mechanically sound.
Starting at the front of the bike....Both wheels rebuilt, hubs checked & brakes relined by Classic Brake services using NOS rear spokes & stainless fronts. New bearings throughout.
New Mitas Enduro tyres & tubes. Fork stanchions hard chromed, new seals, retaining collars replated.New springs. New fork gaiters.
Handlebars ,control perches, lamp rim rechromed. New OE pattern mirror fitted. Cables renewed as required..
The engine has great compression , a good spark & once the carb was ultrasonically cleaned it started up readily. Both ignition circuits work. KLZ magneto ignition, no battery required.
New exhaust front pipe, silencer decoked professionally, new pipe retaining ring & gaskets.
Both steel mudguards stripped to bare metal, rust removed & treated with phosphoric primer, all “moisture traps” sealed & repairs made so as to remove all traces of corrosion before refinishing with silver grey paint.
Swing arm removed, derusted & painted, also front engine mount, brake pedal & lifting handle.
Original tank bag repaired where the clear map panel had been damaged in use. Much of the original contents exists within. Original “skirt” repaired where the fuel pipe had been routed through it.
New rubber chain guides fitted. The G5 rubber guides are no longer available , theses are from a 125. The OE ones are supplied with the bike along with other rare OE parts such as spare spokes, original exhaust pipe, sprockets etc.
All wiring was inspected & reterminated , connectors replaced as required.
A real collectors item, usable should one wish for classic Enduro or Trail bike rallies. As original a G5 as I've seen in many a year even with the original green bulb horn & odd cable ties still present. All replacement parts were sourced from genuine MZ stock or from a G5 specialist in Germany.
Selling as I have too many bikes & the MZ, beautiful as it is, isnt the most practical for everyday or Sunday run use – its a racing machine & wants to go racing rather than potter about the lanes...which these days is my pleasure.

Please be aware this machine is in the UK. I have had enquiries & offers from the EU which have not taken into account the cost of either collection or courier delivery. Delivery by a specialist UK based motorcycle courier to most EU countries will add approximately £400 to 500.
