1953 Healey Abbott - extensively restored For Sale

NYK 794 is a 1953 Healey Abbott F using the standard 2.4 Riley engine but with the Salisbury rear axle. In “The Healey Book” by Bill Emerson, NYK 794 is featured on page 58 as an example of the Abbott F and confirms that by the time production ceased in 1954, only 77 Abbott Drophead Coupes had been made. It is understood that only around 15 are known to still be in roadworthy condition. NYK 794 spent the late 1960's, 1970's and early 1980's in the Henry Ellard collection. Although not able to verify, it is thought the Abbott entered the collection as a very low mileage vehicle with around 25,000 miles on the clock. The Abbott spent many years unused in the collection and during the late 1980's and early 1990's re-commissioning work was carried out and the vehicle put back on the road. There is paperwork and invoices for overhauling the brakes including rebuilding the master cylinder, new dash gauges, rev-counter cable, throttle cable, new shock absorbers, front springs, exchange steering box, new pins, bushes, new petrol tank, new tyres, new hood, re-chroming and a full bare metal re-paint. The Abbott covered in the region of 5,000 miles during the early 1990's. NYK 794 changed hands again in 1994 and by 1996 was having further expenditure. A new Kenlowe fan was fitted, a new exhaust was later fitted and the engine regularly serviced. In 2002 the clutch was replaced and the ignition system replaced. The Abbott has been regularly used since the late 1990's and in 2003 the car was taken to Jordan as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of motoring sport in the country and was paraded in front of the King. The current owner - grandson of Peter Cavanagh “The Voice of Them All”, one of the founding members of the Healey Drivers Club - purchased the Abbott in late 2015. At the point of purchase a significant amount of restoration work was undertaken including a full respray, new seats and numerous repairs to running gear and electrics. Since this time, a running restoration has continued with the most recent being a new wiring loom, new hood, new carpets and other mechanical works with all invoices present. Car has always had an MOT during our ownership and a fresh MOT certificate was issued on 25/05/19. In 2017, the Abbott was driven to Barcelona and took part in the Espirit de Montjuic event, completing a number of laps at the formula one circuit, Circuit Catalunya. Unfortunately, as the family is now growing up; priorities have changed and thus, it is time to find a new owner for this extremely well presented car.
