Brough’s Model 5-15 was the smallest in the range, having a 680cc side-valve JAP engine. Although it is estimated that as many as 200 may have been produced between 1925 and 1932, very few have survived and only two complete machines and six engines are known to the Brough Superior club.
The machine offered for sale uses engine number GT/T 57925 which dates from 1926. Frames used for the 5-15 are identical to those used in the Mk1, Junior and earliest SS80’s and are an open diamond design, unlike the later cradle frame introduced in around 1924. The frame used in this machine was built by BS club Technical Advisor (and professional Brough restorer) Dave Clark, using the frame from his own genuine Junior as a reference. All other major components of the bike are genuine mid-1920’s items conforming to Brough catalogue specification, an exception being the petrol tank. The tank is a newly fabricated Pendine style item, being a replica of that from a 1927 works sand racer.
The basic components of the bike were purchased by a long-standing BS club member in 2008, who some five years later sold it part finished to the current vendor, also a long standing club member. The engine, gearbox, transmission and magneto have all been overhauled. All bright-work has been newly nickel plated and the paintwork is generally excellent. The bike is fitted with a desirable fully restored Bonniksen speedometer and ancillaries, and bears the identity and registration number of a 1932 Brough 680. (the original bike no longer exits).
Having seen very little use since completion, this machine is ready to go and will provide a new owner with an attractive and nimble introduction to vintage Brough Superiors. For more pictures go to - details above
