We have regretfully decided to sell our 1973 T2 Bay window campervan, as we can't give it the attention it deserves any more with a growing family.
It is a tin top, two berth van with a full width rock and roll bed, and has a westafalia interior, featuring a two burner hob, icebox, wardrobe, over and under bed storage and the kitchen sink.
We have owned the vehicle for over 11 years, travelled all over the north of the UK enjoying some great holidays and weekends away, it is also great for day trips to the beach or into the Lake District.
It is great top get out and about in the summer, but we have used it in all weathers and throughout the year, including some trips out for New Year’s eve camping.
It’s really easy to arrive at a camp site and not have to set anything up, just popping the camping chairs out and then rolling out the rock and roll bed, when its bed time. However, when more space is required, you can use an awning. We used a drive-away type predominantly, which are good for storing your seats, bikes etc. out of the rain.
If you wish you can join in with the VW community, visiting shows, and joining clubs. When out and about in the local area we get lots of attention from other motorists and the general public with lots of waving and light flashing.
It is now exempt from the annual MOT test and is also road tax exempt.
It’s a good starter and runs well when in use.
We have used it every year since ownership, and various maintenance works have been carried out each year, this year a new battery was fitted and new front shock absorbers, however a concise list of every little job has not been kept as we never intended to be selling the van. The previous owner replaced the engine with a reconditioned unit circa 2003, therefore mileage is not original. The current mileage is 61,532.
It is now in need of some TLC, in particular the body work, but can be ran and used for the remainder of the summer.
I hope the pictures show the areas of the body which require the most work.
