Offered WITH NEW MOT COMPLETED 15 JUNE 2019, in its original vibrant motor show launch colour of Citrus Metallic with matching and contrasting interior, this superb ultra lightweight and aerodynamic Generation One Honda Insight Hybrid is the third one of these amazing vehicles I've had and I've run this car longer than any other car I've owned in a driving career of over forty years.
Those of you who know your Insights will know all the detailed technical spec but when Honda launched this amazing car, it was the start of something very big.
As the worlds first commercially available hybrid petrol electric car, the technology that went into its development is incredible and worthy of research just for the interest. To this day with its ingenious electric assist and seamless stop-start technology, it still remains one of the cleanest lowest emissions petrol engine cars available and looks altogether future-retro into the bargain and drives and performs really well - without doubt a future classic.
Using pioneering technologies, Honda were able showcase ultra lightweight aluminium and composite bodywork derived from their work with the NSX supercar, incredibly frugal lean burn V-Tec power cleverly linked to a self managed brushless electric motor to create their Integrated Motor Assist and with an automatic stop start functionality their boffins were able to achieve the lowest CO2 emissions ever seen in a petrol engine car with an incredible figure of only 80g/km. This figure still remains unbeaten today by any mainstream manufacturer – even Fiats remarkable TwinAir and Smarts diminutive ForTwo don’t come close.
Dynamically far more fun than you might imagine, these technologically advanced little cars provide an absolutely unique driving experience. Their rev-hungry V-Tec engine makes it capable of 70 mph in second gear, and the stiff, ultra lightweight aluminium chassis gives a taut and positive response on twisty tarmac. On long runs, no matter how much of a petrol head you might be, it becomes seriously rewarding to observe the mpg gauge creeping up and up, sometimes staying beyond the magical 100 mpg mark for mile after mile as you try to squeeze the last drop out of every gallon of hideously expensive, over priced fuel – in a quiet, light green sort of way, this car almost sticks two fingers up at the Establishment as the Government continues trying to price us off our roads!
In my day to day use up and down my local hilly terrain I have to be satisfied with early sixties to the gallon but when I get the car onto the open road and really try to sip fuel, I can readily exceed 80 mpg and have seen a whole trip average of just short of 90 mpg - it's incredible!!
Interestingly, this car was registered from new By Honda Europe, and following its Pre-Delivery Inspection in Bristol the car spent most of its life in Ireland as a brand demonstrator, showcasing all that Honda knew about this new burgeoning technology. Just look at the chassis number - this was only the thirtieth car ever built!
It was eventually sold by Honda in 2014 which is when I bought it. The car is a manual, five speed UK car and it’s now covered around 128500 miles at an average of just under SEVENTY MILES PER GALLON from new!! The paint, body and wheels are in lovely unmolested original condition and tyres are like new. The car weighs so little, hardly anything is put under any stress!
The car is offered with a new MOT and crucially a recent upgrade battery pack as supplied and fitted by the legendary, local Insight Guru, Peter Perkins which is still under warranty. Additionally he's also recently fitted a specialised bespoke grid-charger with fan assisted cooling and I also purchased a discharger from him to help maintain the batteries at the peak of their performance and maximise their life.
The car enjoys enviable Honda Build quality with legendary mechanical integrity and reliability and it's never let me down. It will never rust away and in real world terms, this little gem of a car can actually pay for itself over time as the fuel cost savings are so dramatic - just do the math as they say!
Please call or email to enquire but I'd ask that you phone after office hours as I'm unable to take calls whilst at work

PS - please note that my cherished number plate will not be sold with the vehicle and the car will retain its original plate as shown in the first picture
