1971 MGB ROADSTER. Heritage Shell Restoration. Superb Example For Sale
MGB Roadster is a 1971 car first registered 26.01.1971 .
We have just taken this superb example in part exchange..She's lovely throughout, drives exceptionally well, and is as clean on the underside as it is on top...She's undoubtedly the best MG we've ever driven
Here is it's interesting story...
Until recently it was in the long term ownership of a Mr Collins who bought it in early 1983 - it seems there were 4 previous owners to that. Mr Collins father in law was one of the senior engine managers at the MG Abingdon factory here at Abingdon. So With his father in law’s help Mr Collins rebuilt the car on a new heritage shell with a new replacement MGB engine which they worked on together using all the father in laws skills. This was completed in April 1995 .
All MOT’s from May 95 are available, then showing just 8 miles on a new gauge that was fitted as part of the restoration. Now today 24 years on it has done a little under 8000 miles and has rarely been used in the wet - always stored and wrapped up in the Collin’s garage in Abingdon where they lived. Unfortunately Eric passed away in 2018 and the car had seen little use only doing 1000 miles in the 6 years from 2012 to 2018. Shortly after his death the car was offered by his widow to Abingdon Car Restorations who have 30 years expertise in MGs - that is all the proprietor Steve Illing does. He is a good friend and said it was one of best engine set ups he had ever driven and that i should buy it and he would help me recommission it, which is what i have been doing since October when i bought it.
I have had many MG’s and have a collection of classics so this was great fun as i had just retired. i have fitted it up as follows
