Welcome to my listing for this stunning MK1 Escort Mexico Recreation Rally Car. Starting out in life as a humble 1.3 two-door in November 1971, it had four normal owners before being acquired by a true classic Ford enthusiast in 2006. They completely transformed the car into the Daytona Yellow rally machine you see here after many hours of painstaiking work and lets say a small fortune. The exact spec is far too detailed to list but some of the highlights include a 2.0 litre Pinto engine with a 205 block, fast road cam, unleaded head, twin 40 Webers, single piece propshaft, Type 9 five-speed gearbox with quickshift and pedal box, Janspeed 4-branch manifold, English axle with rear disc brakes, roll cage, battery in boot, engine kill switch, quick release bonnet and boot, fly-off handbrake, four Cibie spotlights,( not wired up)chrome bullet mirrors and much much more.
The body has been fully seam welded to AVO spec with double filled inner wings and all metal panels (no GRP in this beast!). It runs on new 13” x 7” Superlight alloys with brand new Nankang tyres. The interior has colour coded Tyrex rally seats with yellow TRS 5-point harnesses, RS steering wheel and RS 6-pod dash.
The Car starts up first time , it goes through the quick shift gearbox well both up and down the gears, the sound it makes is great! You can tell the engine has gone through so many upgrades but i do feel that it would benefit from a specialist tune and set up to extract the best performance possible from the engine going forward, this i feel will be down to the period of storage the car has been over the last few years. It must be noted that this car is 48 years old and therefore Tax & Mot exempt, however, the car has a current Mot certificate until 11th September 2019.
The key feature of this car has to be the absolutely rock solid 2 door body shell which is a mythical creature these days! The car has been through the seem welding process which is a labour intensive and hard procedure to complete on any shell let alone a shell that is nearly 50 years old! The car has been painted completely in Daytona yellow to a very good standard and has been decaled and badged as a 1600 GT Mexico although some of the black decals have minor bubbles and a couple of bubbles near the rear arch BUT NO ROTS OR HOLES , just for clarity this is a recreation and not a genuine Mexico which I am sure the price indicates such! To the untrained eye this would pass a genuine GT Mexico easily, well definitely in my opinion!
To sum up the overall condition of the car is very good and presentable and is a true investment opportunity, these 2 door mark one Escort’s are very sought after especially as good as this one looks. It is sensible enough to drive on normal roads but is fully kitted out to take on the rally circuits.
I would say she needs a little bit of TLC
The rev counter is not working
The speedo is temperamental
A couple of bubbles NO RUST
Driver side window needs sorting
TO BE PERFECTLY HONEST I WILL TRY AND GET THESE ISSUES SORTED AS I WILL BE HAPPY TO KEEP HER IF NOT SOLD AS THEY AIN’T MANY LEFT OUT THERE ESPECIALLY AT THIS PRICE.
In my opinion I think she is priced accordingly as the real Thing would cost double to what I’m asking for mine.
