1991 1990 Rover Mini Cooper RSP with excellent history. For Sale
For reluctant sale I have my 1990 Mini Cooper RSP in the best colour (Flame Red). If you have come across this advert you probably know what an Mini Cooper RSP is, but for reference please visit the RSP register to see all the unique features of these cars (only 1650 built with 1050 sold in the UK). http://www.rsp-cooper-register.co.uk/index.htm As can be seen from the photos the car is in excellent condition. The body work is excellent on top and underneath (where it still has the factory wax). All the wheels are spotless and the tyres are all less than 5,000 miles old. The interior of the car is all original and in great condition. The engine and gearbox and both original to the car and operate as they should. The brakes all work as they should with the front brakes all new a few years ago and the rears in great condition. The car is used very rarely and only driven on dry roads between April / May and September each year. The previous owners were also very fastidious in looking after the car, resulting in a 29 year old car that looks like new. Unlike a lot of minis out there, this one has been MoT’d and used every year in its 29 year life and kept to a very high standard. This is not your usual full restoration project with every panel replaced. Instead GBK has perfect panel fit from never being blown apart and excellent paint (it has been painted in places over the years). But by far the most amazing thing about this car is it’s history. I’ll give a brief summary below, but much more detail is available on viewing the car with 2 folders full of documentation. 1990 – 1994 (1st Owner): Like every RSP, GBK was made in April 1990 and they were all sold before hitting the showrooms. This particular example was sold to a businessman in the south east of England as an investment. It wasn’t registered immediately, but a year later in 1991 the owner decided to register the Mini Cooper for his secretary to use. It was registered with a private plate. March 1994 – Jan 2006 (Mark Beckham Years): Purchased for £4,900 with 8,281 miles on the clock. A mini obsessed 19 year old bought the car. It was his 3rd of 13 Minis. With the car will come a “Black Book” detailing every penny spent on the car over Mark’s 12 years of ownership. Having been in contact with Mark over the last few years and exchanged many photos its clear he enjoyed taking the car to lots of mini events, highlights being Mini 35 at Silverstone in 1994, a visit to John Cooper Garages in May 1995, Longbridge visit in 1998 to see the Mini production line, another visit to John Cooper Garages in 1999 (with photo of John Cooper with GBK) and winning best standard Rover Cooper at the 2005 London to Brighton Run. The car was also featured in Mini Magazine in 2002 (a copy will come with the car). Mark never wanted to sell GBK but was emigrating to Canada and couldn’t take the car with him, he sold it locally to another mini enthusiast in the Essex area with 51,348 miles on the car. Jan 2006 – Aug 2015 (David Prior Years): David Prior bought the car in 2006 and put in a lot of time and effort to bring the car up to concours standard and used the car sparingly to go to local mini shows to compete in concourse events. During this time David cleaned and painted the engine and also put a lot of effort in to get the car looking as good underneath as it did on top. During his ownership David also replaced the suspension cones with new items and changed the front brake calipers and rear wheel cylinders. David sold the car to me in 2015 with 58,962 miles on the car. Aug 2015 to date. I purchased the car at the end on summer 2015. I was in the middle of restoring a 2000 Mini Cooper Sport and wanted to buy a car I could just drive without having to finish the project. I always wanted an RSP Cooper and contacted Roger Hunt in the RSP Cooper register who put me onto David Prior. Since owning the car it’s only required minimal maintenance (new Track Rod Ends, Steering Rack Gaiters and new front brake flexi hoses the only major items. In 2017 the car won best 1990-2000 Mini class at the Thistle Run. I also attended Stanford Hall in 2017 with the Mini Cooper RSP Register. To date GBK has 62,873 miles. Over the last year only 500 miles were covered, I just don’t get enough opportunity to use the car and that’s the reason for sale. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the car. I’ve taken a “walk around” video of the car which I can send on along with additional photos for any serious enquiries. Thanks for reading.
