1967 Alfa Romeo Quattroruote Gran Sport par Zagato For Sale by Auction
For sale in our forthcoming auction in Paris, on 17 June 2019:
Chassis n° 393045
- Just 92 examples
- Preserved in superb condition
- Great engine, renowned coachbuilder!
On the initiative of the Italian magazine Quattroruote, Alfa Romeo agreed to produce, at the start of the 1960s, an evocation of the famous Zagato-bodied 6C-1750 "Gran Sport". Using the Giulia as a base, including its twin-cam 1600 engine, 92 examples of this original car were built. The body was hand-built by Zagato in aluminium on a tubular framework, making it surprisingly quick.
The example on offer was sold new in Germany and registered on 26 February 1968. The original registration document records all the owners up to 2000, and the current owner acquired the car in 2006 from Artcurial. Liveried elegantly in pale yellow with black wings and black leatherette upholstery, the car has a hood in good condition, as well as side-screens and tonneau cover. A test drive with the vendor demonstrated that the car is in good running condition. Fed by a pair of Weber 40 DCOE carburettors, it has powerful acceleration, producing the signature twin cam sound, while offering the driving sensations of a pre-war car! This rare Alfa has the charm of an official " retro " interpretation, combining superb engineering with a body built by a master coachbuilder, and is as lovely to drive as it is original to look at.
Auction estimate: €70 000 / 90 000
