2016 Porsche 911 R No 359/991
Alternative of Porsche to its purist customers, who wanted to have a 911 GT3 RS type 991 with a conventional manual transmission, the 911 R was therefore revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motorshow. As a vehicle with such profound nature but not exaggerated, the design of the legendary German sports car is also a tribute to the iconic 911 R. With such genesis, the success of the 911 R Type 991 is dazzling. Limited to only 991 units which were sold in record time to happy collectors carefully chosen from the selection list. It certainly has all the right ingredients to seduce drivers who are eager for sensations: flat six-cylinder engine with aspirated 4.0 liters capacity, developing 500 hp, linked with a 6-speed manual gearbox, connected to a chassis with 4 guide wheels and limited slip differential, which transfers the power onto the rear wheels only. The braking system is also provided by carbon ceramic disc brakes with large diameters.
Using the same engine and chassis, but with different settings for great driving agility, the 911 R weights 50 kg less than the GT3 RS. This weight gain, partly achieved thanks to the introduction of the manual gearbox, is actually part of this 911 R philosophy: the pleasure of driving, even if it means being slightly slower than the GT3 RS on lap time. In fact, the fixed rear spoiler of the latter is replaced by the traditional retractable spoiler and the central double exhaust is in titanium. The spoiler’s edge has also been redesigned in comparison to the GT3 and the diffuser made specifically for this new version. Externally mounted on forged 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels with matt aluminium central nut, it bears Porsche badges on each side, as well as optional red or green stripes that goes through the top of the entire bodywork (in reference to its prestigious elder of 1967). As for the interior, carbon bucket seats with central stripe made out of houndstooth fabric (characteristic of the 911’s 1st generation), as well as the GT sports steering wheel and the short-shift gearbox specific to this R model, these elements also emphasis its sportiness and exclusivity. Not to forget the multiple carbon highlights, including the aluminium plate which indicates the vehicle’s number and the fact that the 911 R is a limited edition.
White with green stripes and yellow brake calipers, this car is number 359. It is equipped with air conditioning and audio system, free to include but as an option on this model, in order to reduce the weight. It also has a “lift” system which enables the driver to increase the car’s height. Delivered new in France to its first owner on 10th July 2016 by the Porsche centre in Antibes, before being acquired by its current owner in early 2018, this 911 R has now a total mileage of only 4,000 km. Serviced exclusively at Porsche, it is in almost-new condition and comes with its manuals and folder. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable 911s in excellent condition.
Auction estimate: €280,000 - €320,000
