For sale in our forthcoming auction in Paris, on 17 June 2019:
Chassis # W8ER702232
- A very rare model with many options
- In exceptional condition, masterful appearance
- Electric hood and perfect colours
The current owner of this car, a very selective French collector, was attracted by the originality of this machine. Indeed, it had been restored with great care by the previous owner, an important collector from Pennsylvania with several car dealerships, and more than a dozen rare American cars. This Edsel is still sumptuous today and displays all the American excess of the period: its electric seats and its electric convertible top, its automatic gearbox controls in the hub of the steering wheel (system called at the time "Teletouch Electric Push Button Transmission Selector"), its swiveling speedometer, its tracking lights, its V8 of 6-litres and 300bhp, not to mention its Sunset Corral colour.
Bearing the name of the late son of Henry Ford, the Edsel brand was launched to highlight the modernity of the group. Unfortunately, this operation ended in a resounding failure, of which one of the causes was attributed to the particular grille design, whose vertical grid evoked according to some, a very intimate feminine attribute... The failure of the Edsel has resulted in a scarcity, with just 1,876 units of the Pacer produced in 1958. Because of their exoticism and rarity, they are now much sought after. It is even rarer to find such a car in France, a perfect reflection of the American dream and an ideal machine to drive around in a relaxed atmosphere, in a spacious cabin, bathed in sunshine.
