1938 Matchless Model X For Sale

For sale my 1938 Matchless model X first registered in 1944 possibly due to the second world war.It was registered to a Mr Scott of Terrington St Clement on the 3/7/1944 The Matchless changed owners in 1957 and became the property of Cyril Crowe of Sandringham Kings Lynn A well known motorcycle enthusiast and Vincent specialist at that time. The bike stayed with Cyril until his death when it was inherited by his brother in law.By this time the machine had fallen into dis repair and needed a major overhaul and refurbishment. Work was begun with reconditioning of forks, gearbox, engine, and a hand made stainless steel exhaust system was manufactured. The frame was powder coated, the petrol tank rechromed painted and lined and all other cycle parts were repainted. Interest was lost in the project and the decision was made to part with the Matchless. The previous owner purchased the model X in 2000 requiring reassembly and further restoration. It was discovered that the engine cam shaft was worn beyond repair and a new one was purchased off the shelf from the Brough Superior owners club as was a severely worn engine output shaft. As the SS80 Brough uses the Matchless engine spares are readily available. The Magneto and dynamo were overhauled and final assembly completed. The bike was then used regularly for several years, always reliable and the source of great interest at local shows and events winning several awards.. Although it is now an older restoration the bike still looks fantastic and polishes up well. The engine starts and runs well, the charging system and electrics are fully functional benefitting from a electronic regulator for reliability.4 Previous owners . The Matchless has not had any serious road use lately and is currently on a sorn status and now offered for sale as i have given up riding.Comes with buff log book.
