2015 DAIMLER SP 250.FULL BODY OFF REBUILD For Sale
One of the first and most aristocratic manufacturers in the history of motoring, Daimler was long famed for producing a long line of formal and unsporting cars aimed at satisfying the conservative tastes of the upper middle class motorist. Totally out of character, they launched one of the most outlandish sports cars ever to grace the road. Aimed squarley at the USA market, the Daimler Dart was launched at the 1959 New York Motor show but was soon renamed the SP250 after Chrysler asserted that they had already trademarked the Dart name for the forthcoming Dodge. In the initial 'A' series form, the car was criticized for an over flexible chassis and when Jaguar bought out Daimler in 1960, they promptly brought out the 'B' spec version with a a much stiffened frame, thicker bodywork and other detail improvements.
According to the Heritage certificate that accompanies the car, this superb SP250 was built in Coventry in October 1962 and dispatched to Lincoln Daimler agents J.R.J Mansbridge Ltd.In 1968 the Daimler was purchased by an Irish medical student who took the car back home to Ireland in 1974, keepng it until he passed away early last year. It was used to take him and his new wife on a tour of Africa on their honeymoon and has remained a much loved member of the family having covered just 82,000 miles from new.
In 2013 the car was treated to a body off restoration by J.L. Engineering of County Kildare. The rebuild included the fitting of a new steering rack, stainless steel exhaust system, upgraded radiator and an electric fan. New chrome wire wheels were fitted with matching Vredenstien tyres and it also had a new mohair hood together with a half and full tonneau cover.
