Motodrome are pleased to offer this 1966 example of the ever-popular Land Rover Series IIa, this one a mid-period petrol narrow-headlight model (with all it’s correct mid-period features) 88in finished in Bronze Green.
Some might say this one represents the ‘holy grail’ for Series IIa aficinados, in that it appears almost completely original. It doesn’t appear to have ever been welded, seems to have it’s original paint (which is obviously quite patinated, and with 53 years of scars), and appears pretty much rust-free (save for the passenger footwell which has a small hole) with a truly superb chassis. It even has it’s original ‘elephant hide’ seats, although these show wear commensurate with the age.
It’s recently been recommissioned with new copper brake pipes, wheel cylinders, fuel pump/filter, and a service.
It’s doubtless one of the most original and untouched ones out there, and deserves to be left as such in my opinion.
We examined it closely on arrival and it’s just as good as we thought. It drives just the way an unrestored example with a sound chassis should, with decent steering and brakes, and with a feeling of ‘togetherness’ that’s very hard to replicate once they’ve been taken apart. However it does currently have a slight misfire, so it won’t be going onto our website just yet, until we’ve sorted that out. Examining the ignition system, the HT leads etc seem to be very old indeed (possibly original) so these are the first items we’ll be changing.
Whilst it’s not on our website yet pending sorting out the misfire, a comprehensive video of our appraisal can be viewed by clicking onto this link:

The Series IIA was in production from 1961 to 1971, and is considered by many to be the most rugged of all the classic Land Rovers. The Series II became the IIA when the diesel engine was bored out to match that of the petrol version at 2 ¼ litres.
