For those of you who don’t know the marque, the mark 1 MR2 is incredible fun to drive, has good fuel consumption and is easily maintained. This particular model also has the benefit of removable glass roof panels, that can be stored in the original bags behind the seats along with the roof shades, to bring you even more fun.
This example came into my possession on 2nd January 2014 from a chap who had purchased it just 12 months before from a lady called Maria, the daughter of the second owner. The chap had barely driven it during his ownership and hence sold it on to me, but the reason he bought it and the reason I bought it from him was because of it’s immaculate condition.
Maria had commissioned a classic car company on the south coast to carry out a full nut and bolt restoration in memory of her mother, which cost nigh on £30k according to the wallet of receipts I have - clearly no expense was spared. As part of the works, new steel Toyota front and rear wings were fitted (which are no longer available), the engine was completely rebuilt and all other items were removed stripped and either repainted, refinished or anodised before being carefully refitted, including the re-trimming of the leather seats to OEM Specification.

I purchased the car because it made more economic sense than to restore a poorer example myself and this is still true today with some parts getting much harder to find and consequently costs are rising, including current values of very good examples.
I have not been able to drive the car as much as I’d have liked, covering less than 2000 miles in our five and a half years together, but in my time of ownership I have replaced a lot of the original trim with much better examples and have also fitted a new alternator, a new rear brake caliper and polished her to within an inch of her life!
Note that the exhaust and tyres, including the spare, are in excellent order and the car wants for nothing. The previous owner had the timing belt and water pump replaced giving further peace of mind to the new owner and today she has had her MOT renewed.
All electrical systems are fully operational including the windows, door mirrors and the original radio cassette, which is in perfect working order along with the electric aerial which pops up when the radio is turned on. There is lots of paperwork that was handed to me which I will pass on, together with all that I have accrued, including the stamped service booklet and owner's manual contained in its own wallet. The original tool roll is also present and complete.
Incidentally the car was featured in issue 7 of Modern Classics magazine (October 2016), a copy of which will made available to the new owner, together with all photographs taken during the shoot.
I have only used her during dry summer months and she has been garaged throughout my ownership. There is a genuine reason for this sale, which is a very regrettable sale indeed.
