1992 UK market mazda rx7 twin turbo (fd3s)
MOT – 22/2/2020
Mileage – 148k miles
This is one of only 210 cars that were officially imported by Mazda for the UK market between 1992-1996. After the first year, Mazda reduced the price by £7000 to boost sales and refunded the difference to anyone who had bought a 1992 model, this being a 1992 car means that someone wanted it badly enough to pay the full asking price when it hit the UK shores! Consequently it is now a rare find, especially in such unmolested condition.
UK cars featured high spec with leather interior, electric sunroof and cruise control, both the sunroof and cruise control are in working order and the black leather interior is tidy with the exception of some bolster wear on the drivers seat shown in the pics.
The engine has just been treated to fresh mineral oil and a new filter, new spark plugs and leads and a new fuel filter, with the hard-lines also being replaced from the fuel tank to the engine bay with aluminium. A new catalytic convertor was also fitted and other than a horn which needed to be replaced and a handbrake mechanism which needed to be stripped and cleaned up, the car went straight through the MOT in February this year.
It has the standard forged Mazda wheels wearing 4 new, matching tyres and the brake discs and pads have very little wear.
It starts perfectly hot or cold and pulls smoothly; I checked the compression using a normal style gauge and both rotors averaged just over 6 bar cold.
The car came to me with no history, although I’m told it had not long had an engine rebuild by the previous keeper, I have no paperwork to back this up, I have no reason to dispute it though, he owned the car for ten years and its very unlikely it would have reached the mileage that it has without being rebuilt at least once, if not twice!
The clutch biting point is quite high so I would say it will require a clutch at some stage in the near future and the synchro on 5th gear is a little worn, it selects the gear fine but crunches a little if you try and shift it quickly. It’s still perfectly driveable but it would make sense to investigate the synchro or replace the box whilst the clutch is done.
Also after 148k, the diff bushes are a little worn and clunk a little when coming on and off and accelerator so will also want looking at.
Whilst on the whole, the bodywork and interior are very presentable, it’s still a 27 year old car so is showing its age if you’re being critical, the front edge of the sunroof has some scabs and there is a small scab on one of the rear lower quarter panels, other than that is it just the usual minor car park dinks etc.
The dashboard seems to have had various hands free devices or phone holders mounted to it in the past so has a number of tiny screw holes in, they’re not too unsightly but I’m trying to be as honest as possible, also the door cards have been cut to fit Tweeters but I have a pair of uncut replacements that I will include with the car.
This is all but an unmolested example of a very rare care, with the exception of the stereo, a racing beat back box and a racing beat air intake, it is essentially as Mazda intended it to be and with a small amount of work would make an absolutely fantastic car.
I have too many other projects on the go so I can’t justify keeping this one,
The car is located in Plymouth
