This is a car we always look for, as they are simply the coolecst and most practical classic saloon you can buy today. We have here a 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE Saloon, finished in Black with Black interior, our car is UK Supplied Right Hand Drive and has the desirable Automatic Gearbox Floor Shift Option,
Publicly displayed for the first time at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1967, Mercedes-Benz's fifteen 'New Generation' models went on sale the following January. But although the fuel-injected 280SE saloon shared its bodywork with the 'New Generation' 280S, the 280SE Coupe and Cabriolet retained the elegant looks of the outgoing 250SE that had debuted back in 1959 on the 220SE; the 2,778cc overhead-camshaft six-cylinder Type M130 engine though, was all new. In fuel-injected 'SE' form the M130 produced 160bhp at 5,500rpm, an output sufficient to propel the manual transmission model to 118mph, with the automatic not far behind.
Coming from a private classic Mercedes-Benz collection from Cardiff, it has been owned by the previous owner since August 2013 who is passionate about all things 3-pointed star. Our car is a Fuel injected 280SE (not a 280S as badged in the photos) which features the 158hp 2.8 litre M130 engine (the twin carb 280S made 20hp less) mated to four speed automatic transmission.
The car has a nice history file, it received an extensive and expensive restoration in 2002 by one of South Wales’s leading Mercedes-Benz specialists Stuttgart Garage of Pontyprid. The then owner spent nearly £3,000 on the engine alone, let alone the rest of the car which received a comprehensive, documented and photographic restoration.
The car’s history file contains the V5C, aforementioned documentation relating to restoration, owner’s manual and other invoices and old MOTs, drives really well and is ready for its next owner.
