GALVANISED CHASSIS AND GALVANISED FRONT RAD PANEL WITH REMAINING VEHICLE BEING MOSTLY ORIGINAL SPECIFICATION AS IT LEFT THE FACTORY.
This is a late Series one Land Rover. It was registered at the same time as the Series 2 Land Rover was announced by Land Rover in May 1958. After 10 years of Series one production they had developed the Series one model as much as they could.
This Land Rover SXF 729 has been subject to multiple periods of restoration by the two previous owner's and myself.
In 2005 the Land Rover was rebuilt on a new Galvanised chassis. The same owner went on to the rebuild the engine in 2009. The engine is the original 2ltr unit to the vehicle and the majority of engine parts were supplied by Cox and Turner.
The vehicle changed ownership in around 2010 and again went through another phase of restoration. New Autosparks wiring loom installed, suspension replaced and the canvas hood was fitted sometime later. The bulkhead is tidy and has had some refurbishment work. The radiator panel is also galvanised, so no corrosion issues here.
I purchased the Land Rover in early 2015 and the Land Rover started it's third phase of restoration. I fitted a set of five refurbished wheels, painted in Deep bronze green and also a set of correct 6.00 R16 tyres. I have fitted a set of new Elephant hide grey seats to the front and carried out many other corrections such as fitting the correct Series one wiper arms and blades. Many parts have come from Dunsfold Land Rover during my ownership.
This Land Rover has been well maintained and any repair work required was taken care of. I have just fitted a Genuine Land Rover oil seal to the rear diff, new brake pipes to the rear and also fitted a pair of quality rear brake wheel cylinders.
Many parts are correctly date stamped such as the original Lucas horn switch and Lucas fuse box as examples. Engine number, front axle number, bulkhead chassis plate are all matching numbers. The rear axle is correct and original (the 1118 prefix part of the number is evident after further cleaning). The gearbox has a 1957 year serial number.
The SXF registration Land Rover was originally supplied to the Government for use by the Civil Defence. The other owner's of this vehicle have all cared for the Land Rover as it has not been modified or abused.
Mechanically the Land Rover is in great shape but the bodywork has been subject to two later paint jobs during it's life and this is now starting to peel away in places. The original paintwork can clearly be seen underneath where the paint has come away. I have taken lots of photo's so you can clearly see this is a used Land Rover. The worst area for peeling are on the tailgate and part of the Right hand side of the body.
The Land Rover is used regularly by myself and I had planned to strip the body down for a full respray but due to major building works at my new home this Land Rover reluctantly needs to be sold.
The Land Rover is supplied with an original tool kit, owners handbook plus a box folder full of invoices and vehicle history.
I can send further photos by request.
I can arrange transport if required, just let me know where and I can get you a quote.
If you have any questions please ask. The Land Rover can be viewed at my barn if you wish for an inspection.
During my years of ownership I have collected a number of genuine parts and other correct Series one 58 period parts which are available by separate negotiation to the buyer of SXF 729. This can be discussed after the sale.
This is a UK vehicle with an interesting Government history and still retains its original Home Office SXF Registration number.
