Offered for sale is this exceptional Volvo Amazon 122S.
Registered new in June 1961, it is one of the earliest Amazon’s on the road today.
The previous owner spent considerable time and money returning the car to the road after 20 years in storage following a restoration, and included the following work:
Carburettors balanced and tuned and engine fitted with new distributor cap, points, condenser, rotor arm, spark plugs and leads. New engine mounts, 8x new front suspension bushes, new steering column coupling, new rear shock absorbers, new rear trailing arm bushes. New propshaft mounting bushes, new rear axle limit straps, new oil to gearbox and differential. New 6v battery. New clutch master cylinder, new slave cylinder, new return spring and bracket. The clutch and starter motor were replaced shortly before the car came off the road in 1997. New master cylinder, new flexible hoses, 4x new wheel cylinders. New handbrake cables.
In our care, we undertook a full respray, with various associated parts and seals throughout the car wherever needed. The brightwork has also been refurbished, including the super rare early style boot handle.
The seats and door cards have been professionally re-dyed. They now look bright and fresh, but retain their authentic originality. A brand-new carpet set compliments the look perfectly.
The engine has been removed, stripped and painted, whilst various gaskets and service parts were replaced, along with a new water pump and full exhaust system. The car runs and drives beautifully, and you will be surprised by the comfortable and reassuring driving experience – this does not feel like a 58-year-old car to drive! Lots of time and energy have been lavished on this car, regardless of cost, and it shows.
Overall, this is a very special example of the Amazon; it’s a rare and desirable early spec car, with all the original and neat design features, it’s a 122S so offers a boost in performance and driveability, it’s got some neat touches such as the redline tyres matched to the brand new “V” hubcaps, and there’s nothing left to do now but simply drive and enjoy. We believe this to be amongst the very best examples available for sale today.
New 12 month’s MOT, to June 2020.
Please note: This car will be featured in an upcoming episode of Salvage Hunters Classic Cars featuring Drew Pritchard and Paul Cowland, and we would be keen for the new owner to potentially appear on camera purchasing the car from our presenters
