For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Series 3 in Deep Bronze Green (1972).
200TDI. MOT Exempt. Tax Exempt. Galvanised Chassis Rebuild in 2015 (two year restoration). Overdrive. 750 tyres.
We are delighted to present for sale this recently rebuilt Series 3, fitted with the acclaimed 200TDI engine. This vehicle was subject to a full, two year restoration built on a Richards' Galvanised Chassis, painted black at point of rebuild to protect for the future. This vehicle had a well documented build due to it being conducted by the Edinburgh College Motor Vehicle Department, having been restored by ex-forces mechanics and lecturers! We have a full list included in the sale, from the previous keeper, which documents the detailed nature of this restoration.
The exterior is finished with a gloss green paint finish to a good standard. A set of recent 750 Deestone tyres are fitted to the original rims, and the matching spare is housed on the rear. A towbar and electrics have been fitted to enable towing - the previous keeper had a landscaping business so used the vehicle to work. As the photos show, this is a well sorted vehicle.
The interior houses two front seats with centre cubby box, and the rear also has twin benches to allow for seven occupants including the driver. Front door cards and deluxe matting help with the overall feeling of comfort.
As well as being rebuilt onto a new galvanised chassis, the vehicle has been fitted with many new parts and is therefore in a mechanical order not normally seen on a vehicle of this age. This vehicle was driven to us by the previous keeper on a trouble free journey of 200 miles - a testament to the current reliability and confidence he had in it! The 200TDI engine (new timing belt, new diesel glow plugs) is mated to an overdrive and coupled with the larger tyres, gives a relaxed cruising speed. This gives the vehicle the best possible driving experience in spite of its age. This set up gives twice the power over standard with double the fuel economy, whilst improving reliability to boot!
Listed below are just some of the items done during the rebuild process;
- New Steve Parker exhaust
- New wiring loom
- New headlights and side lights (halogen type)
- New clutch friction plate
- Engine work - new timing belt and new glow plugs with switch. Engine was then power washed and steam cleaned.
- New front bumper
- New braking system including brake pipes
- New shock absorbers all round
- New leaf springs, front and back
- All driveshafts replaced
- New clutch master and slave cylinders
- New spare wheel carrier on rear
- New heavy duty battery
- New footwells
In summary then, if you are looking for a rebuilt Series 3 with a modern drivetrain, with the added benefit of classic insurance, MOT and tax exemption then this could be for you.
