Recently recommissioned after approx. 12 years in dry storage, this is a very genuine example of an early MK2 Golf GTi with an interesting history.
Previously owned by renowned VW/Audi specialists BBR/GTI Engineering, and has supporting documents and stamps in the (duplicate) service book. An engine rebuild by them has been noted in the history, and there is evidence of their trademark blue painted engine block.
A good friend purchased the Golf from where it had been sitting in storage for 11 years, he put it straight into his storage unit for just under a year before selling it to me. I then worked to get it up and running and back on the road.
It's currently at 126,870 miles, having covered around 200 miles since the work being done.
MOT'd until October 2019
Recent work carried out includes:
Bottom wishbones & bushes
New radiator & coolant
Fuel pump housing stripped, cleaned & sealed
Now it has done a few miles after the service it would benefit from a tune, I'll try and get this done before sale.
Very presentable, considering it's 33 years old. Has blemishes/marks on most panels from where it was in storage but nothing too drastic - I planned to leave it as is as I like the originality. Underside is solid, with one area noted that may need minor attention in the future. Will possibly need a windscreen as it got a stonechip one of the first times I drove it which is developing into a small crack. One of the fuel tank strap mounts has come away from the boot floor, requiring (an easy) repair - price now adjusted accordingly.
In a fair condition, with the really nice early seat fabric. The headlining has started to drop at the rear (as they all do) and the seats have some wear. All the important original early features are present. Period Blaupunkt radio cassette fitted. Typically, I drove it recently and the odometer stopped working whilst out.
Original 14" Pirelli P Slot alloys, with brand new Falken tyres all round.
This is a genuine car, with lots of potential - drive as is and continue to improve, or it could be good basis for full restoration. It deserves to
go to an enthusiast owner who will continue to enjoy it as I have.
