1952 MG TD Roadster
Reg. no. LVS 276
Chassis no. TD/23414
Engine no. XPAG603
The T-Type MGs were produced between 1936 and 1955, gaining in 1939 the excellent XPAG 1250cc engine which proved to be the car’s greatest strength, providing these lightweight 2-seaters with excellent performance for the time. Post-war, as British manufacturers were forced to ‘export or die’, the cars found great favour on the other side of the Atlantic. American owners proved to be more than willing to put up with the lack of creature comforts in exchange for a proper British sports-car experience. Of the T-Series models, the TD was the most advanced, sharing a chassis with the Y-Type saloon and thus incorporating independent front suspension. Nearly 30,000 were made, over 23,000 of those being sold in the US. This TD came from America in around 2000, following which the car was restored, incorporating a 1500cc TF engine with a five speed gearbox and clutch conversion. The car saw little use until about four years ago, when it was purchased by the current owner. In the file there is a V5c, some bills and some old MOT certificates.
This and 60 other classic cars and motorcycles will be sold on June 15th at Allington, near Chippenham, Wiltshire, SN14 6LJ. All enquiries to 01249 444544 or look at the fully illustrated catalogue online at richardedmondsauctions.com
