1972 Range Rover A-Suffix - Nut and Bolt Rebuild For Sale
Currently located High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire Extensive nut and bolt restoration is almost complete on this vehicle where absolutely no expense has been spared. The car is currently undergoing a thorough and comprehensive road test. Thus far in excess of 1200 hours have been invested. I am selling on behalf of my father who is the 7th owner of this vehicle, it comes with DVLA output of previous owners and a Heritage Certificate. The mileage is 78,000 but cannot be verified. Running gear Where possible original components have been rebuilt rather than replaced. Axles are both a-suffix and believed to be original to the vehicle. Both differentials were found to be in excellent condition but still stripped, checked and rebuilt. Gearbox is a-suffix and believed to be original to the vehicle. Along with the integral transfer box it was stripped down and found to be in excellent low mileage condition. It has been rebuilt, the only new item needed was a new high quality British made centre mainshaft bearing. A brand new clutch has been fitted. Brakes have been rebuilt throughout; calipers were refurbished with new seals and pistons, the brake servo assist was cleaned and rebuilt, all other components in the braking system has been replaced with new. Engine fitted to the car when bought was from a late SD1. This has been replaced with an F-Suffix Range Rover 3.5 v8 BUT has been rebuilt to 8.13:1 spec and fitted with Strombergs. It performs perfectly and as it would have originally when new. Steering is original specification power assisted. Steering box and pump were stripped and rebuilt with just new seals needed. Brand new power steering hoses have been fitted. Original 1970s Range Rover wheels have been powder coated silver and fitted with Michelin 4x4 tyres and new tubes. Be aware that the tyres while brand new are date flagged 1999. Body and Chassis The majority of time spent in the early stages of this restoration involved cutting out all rust from the body frame. New Sills and inner wings were fitted, A-Post and B-Post were repaired with new metal replacing any rust. The gearbox cover was repaired as were the rear and boot floors. The bulk head needed repairs to the footwells and sides. The chassis was blasted back to bare steel, this exposed previous repairs that had been smoothed over. The older repair work has been checked thoroughly only one area needed attention. The chassis has now been powder coated. Brand new outer Land Rover rear wings and front drivers wing have been fitted, Brand new door skins have been fitted to extensively repaired door shells. Rust free Bonnet and lower tailgate have been fitted. Original early roof panel was retained. All have been painted to the original Davos White. Brand new aluminum top tailgate has been fitted with original spec heated rear window. All side glass is believed original to the vehicle. Original 1970s bumpers have been powder coated Interior and trim Original wiring loom has been refurbished, all extra wiring has been removed, new wires to the correct specification have been installed. New old stock rear light clusters have been fitted Used old stock early front indicator units have been fitted New H4 headlights have been fitted. Heater unit has been refurbished and works as it should. Original clock works, as do voltage, oil pressure and oil temperature gauges. Original headlining and sunvisors have been cleaned and refitted, the rear section of the headliner is not perfect but adds patina. New gearbox cover is fitted, complimenting the original factory "hose down" floor mats. Very rare boot floor mat is fitted though this is not in as new condition. Original tools are fitted to the rear inner wing. New tool roll has been made. Seat covers, door trims and side cappings to the original design have been bought brand new from Nationwide Trim. Brand new inertia seatbelts have been fitted to the front seats Dash and console are original, no extra holes are cut into the upper dash, it has been fitted with a new reproduction speedometer bezel. There are in excess of 1000 photographs detailing this excellent high quality restoration.
