A cult UK supplied BMW Z1 with 19,751 miles and full BMW service history.

Two-door two-seater roadster, torsionally rigid monocoque chassis, Z-Design rear axle, composite resin panels, rollover bar integrated into windscreen, electrically operated vertical sliding doors, smart window lift with memory function, Air Flow lift-force reducing underside, rear diffuser design, low-beam headlights in ellipsoid technology, high beam headlights in paraboloid technology. Dealer accessories; Ultrasonic alarm, Pioneer 3090 stereo system with remote control, carpet mats.

The first model in BMW’s line of Z-Series roadsters, the iconic Z1 was build in limited numbers of just 8,000. All left-hand drive, the majority of cars (6,443) were sold to the home German market with Italy taking the second largest number of cars, making this UK supplied example exceptionally rare. Z stands for Zukunft, or ‘Future’ translated from German and aerodynamics played a huge part in the cars design, with a fully flat under-tray and rear diffuser. Other unique features were the electrically operated vertical sliding doors and bodywork made from various composite resin panels, to which BMW insisted could be fully changed in 40 minutes by a competent Technician, even to the point where they recommended buyers purchased a second set of panels in order to change the colour at a quim!

The most striking colour in factory original Top Red, (Top Rot - Code 257), is everything you would except from a 19,751 miles example that has formed part of one of the UKs most renowned collections. Unrepeatable in condition, originality and credentials, the paintwork is near flawless and all composite panels, plastics and trim are preserved. One minuscule treated scratch will be forgiven by even the strictest scrutineer. The hood is factory fitted and as new with only a slight crease to the plastic rear screen. BMW dealer number plates are fitted and there are even stickers still attached to the original exhaust! The quirky electrically operated vertical sliding doors function seamlessly with the toothed rubber belts working as they should. Idolised by BMW enthusiasts, this Z1 is without question one of the best in existence.

The special BMW sports seats feature integral headrests and are trimmed in the original Dark Grey Nubuk Leather, (Grau/Dunkelgrau - Code 0300), which are spotless and totally free from degradation. The pristine dashboard trimmed in Grey Cowhide hosts fully functioning and as new switches, controls and gauges and the unique three spoke steering wheel is perfect. The side panel trim is fully intact with only light scratches inflicted upon clambering in and out of the cockpit. Dealer supplied and near impossible to replace carpet mats remain with the car. Many cars were ordered new with upgraded stereo systems and the Pioneer 3090 unit as specified on the new car invoice in the history file remains fitted. This Z1 interior is exactly as it sat in the UK main dealer showroom in 1990.

Sourced from the E30 325i is BMW’s legendary and time proven inline six-cylinder engine displacing 2494cc. A power output of 170bhp and 222Nm torque in a car weighing just 1250kg is enough to achieve 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 140mph. The spotless and unmolested engine bay displays factory plates and stickers and the composite bonnet wears the correct underside pressings and crackle finish. The five speed manual short throw gearbox is light and precise. Engine in front mid-ship arrangement with rear wheel drive achieves a near perfect 49:51 front to rear weight distribution. The ultimate Z driving machine.

Factory fitted 16-inch 7-spoke alloy wheels are exclusive to the Z1 and this set are in pristine unrestored condition with perfect BMW centre caps. Matching premium Pirelli P7000 tyres of size 225/45 ZR16 have plenty of tread and the original space saver spare wheel with unused factory Michelin tyre is housed in the upper luggage compartment alongside the complete toolkit and jack. The ABS braking system offers more than adequate stopping power.

Such an automotive legend thoroughly deserves the advocation of an amazing history file, something this BMW Z1 enjoys in complete abundance with fully traceable ownership, BMW main dealer service history and mileage of just 19,751. A very rare UK supplied and UK registered Z1, the supplying BMW main dealer was Ryland Central of Birmingham and first registration was 1st March 1990. A new car sales invoice made out to first owner, UFB Finance, depicts a purchase price of £38,952.16, Porsche 911 money in 1990! A further used vehicle sales invoice from the same main dealer, Ryland Central, when the car was 21 months old with just 2,900 is included along with the BMW advert from the time when the vehicle was advertised for £26,750. The second owner, Mr John Rennison cherished the car for the next 20 years selling it to the famous Graham Dacre collection to where it was last registered.

The original BMW grey plastic wallet houses the service booklet with 17 stamped entries, all BMW main dealer with the most recent less than 100 miles ago and a cambelt change last carried out at 18,264 miles. All handbooks, guides and dealership welcome literature are in the wallet and there is even an original sales brochure. Completing the history is a large folder of supporting BMW service invoices and every MOT certificate from the first in 1993 to 2011 when it entered the collection, along with the most recent in May 2019. If you are wanting to best collector’s quality BMW Z1, search no more, you have found it.
