This Dorset -registered Jaguar was purchased by a retired motor engineer three years ago as a project car. The bodywork was and still is in very good, solid condition. On very close inspection, the paintwork does have some areas of micro-blisters, but the vendor has pointed out that this issue has not deteriorated during his ownership of the Jaguar. There is also some minor damage to the right hand front wing. The brightwork is largely original and in good condition, as is the interior and leather upholstery, which are serviceable and good for their age. The dashboard and Burr walnut cappings are described as pleasing, and the original sunroof is present and in working order.
Fitted with new eight-ply Radial tyres, we understand that the Jaguar’s automatic transmission and rear axle work as they should, running smoothly and quietly. The 3.8 litre overhauled engine has a small noise when starting from cold, but disappears when the engine warms up. The brakes have also been overhauled with the fitting of new calipers and pads. The dynamo, power steering and pump have been rebuilt. Sensibly, the automatic choke has been converted to an on-off switch, and the vacuum screen washers to electric. The vendor assures us that the motor car has excellent oil pressure and that engine runs cool; indeed, he has full confidence in the Mk IX and would happily ‘drive it anywhere’.
A considerable amount of time and expenditure has been invested in the Mk IX by its current custodian; an interesting schedule of work included in the file documents costings for parts alone at £5862.
The large history file contains an original sales brochure, a Jaguar Production Record Certificate and correspondence, the V5 document, the V5C registration certificate and its replacement, MOT test certificates, a quantity of invoices, a photocopy handbook with a supplement and wiring diagrams.
