All round excellent condition 1960 Austin Healey 'Frogeye' Sprite in cherry red. Completely rust free.
Extensively upgraded to fast road specification., using components from a marque specialist.
Tax and MOT exempt.
The car will come with very good hood, frame, tonneau cover and side screens.
The car was owned by a St Andrews University professor for many years. It had sat in a garage barely used until I bought it and extensively refurbished it, as follows;
ENGINE / GEARBOX
1275 A series. Just serviced with coolant, oil, filter, plugs, leads, coil, dizzy cap and rotor arm. Only the best quality items have been used.
Rebulit prior to my ownership with performance unleaded cylinder head, performance camshaft, performance intake and exhaust manifolds. The twin SU carbs have been modified for increased flow and have twin K&N filters. It has been converted to electronic ignition.
New lightweight aluminium radiator fitted. It is vertical flow as per the original however is larger with 4 rows rather than 3.
Stainless steel exhaust.
The engine performs fantastically well, with not far shy of double the original bhp.
Standard 4 speed non overdrive box. A joy to use.
SUSPENSION / STEERING / RUNNING GEAR
Freshly refurbished steering rack, new steering arms and track rod ends.
Lowered approx 1.5'' all round, giving excellent stance and handling.
New uprated Armstrong lever dampers all round.
New front springs.
New suspension bushes all round.
New fast road anti roll bar and bushes.
New rear radius arms.
New rear wheel bearings and hub seals.
Front disc conversion.
Every brake component has been replaced, front and rear, including all pads, shoes, cylinders, hoses (braided), calipers. New master cylinder (the correct one for disc brakes) and refurbished pedal box.
Completely rust free, including underside. There are no welded patches underneath.
Repainted to a good standard, I understand around 20 years ago. No signs of corrosion, bubbling paint etc.
WIndow frame is in perfect condition with all new rubbers. Matching cockpit metal trim is also excellent.
The bonnet is fibreglass. It has been suggested that it may be a period lightweight bonnet, however I cannot confirm. Please see photos - the fit is excellent and better than most steel bonnets that I have seen.
All chrome is in excellent condition.
Refurbished period 'Ace' number plate.
WHEELS / TYRES
Freshly powder coated original wheels with new chrome hubcaps. New quality tyres.
New burgundy carpets and seat covers, piped burgundy.
Lovely Moto Lita steering wheel.
All gauges, switches work as intended.
New modern seat belts.
I have a large folder of receipts and the heritage certificate.
V5 in my name.
Previously featured in classic car magazine in 1997 - a copy comes with the car.
The car has an agreed insurance value of £21000, and costs me £70 or so a year.
I have several classic British sports cars and as such this does not see that much use. That said, I would consider another classic car, of lesser value, if that would assist a buyer.

This rare and original 948cc mk 2 sprite was restored in 2013/14 after being housed in a garage/ drive for 27 years. It's original Han. 6 engine and smooth case gearbox show all the signs the 31k mileage on the odometer could well be correct. I have a fairly comprehensive history file showing mileage .....
Model year 1961, but the car was first registered in February 1965.

The Austin-Healey Sprite was built in 4 series from 1958 to 1971. The first series was nicknamed "frogeye" because of its prominent headlights. In spite of its little BMC engine this light car is a spirited sportscar.
The car is in restored very good condition.
