The AMV8 (Weber Carburettors) version was produced from August 1973 to September 1978 with chassis numbers running from V8/11002/RCA to V8/12031/RCAS.
Significantly the Bosch Fuel Injection was replaced by four twin-choke downdraught Weber carburettors, this required a deeper bonnet bulge.
A total of 969 cars were made despite production stopping between December 1974 and Spring 1976 whilst the company was in receivership.
First registered as PYN181R in February 1977, the Series 3 cars introduced in 1973 switched back to Weber carburettors, ostensibly to help the car pass new stricter emissions standards in California but most likely because Aston Martin was unable to make the Bosch fuel injection system work correctly. These cars are distinguished by a taller hood scoop to accommodate four twin-choke (two-barrel) Weber carbs. The car produced 310 hp (231 kW; 314 PS) and could reach 60 mph (97 km/h) in 6.1 seconds with an automatic transmission or 5.7 with a manual. Performance suffered with emissions regulations, falling to 288 hp (215 kW; 292 PS) in 1976. The next year, a more powerful "Stage 1" engine with new camshafts and exhaust brought it up to 305 hp (227 kW; 309 PS).
Production of Series 3 cars lasted from 1973 through October 1978 but was halted for all of 1975. 967 examples were produced in this time. While earlier V8 cars have louvers cut into the little panel mounted beneath the rear windshield, the Series 3 and later cars instead have a small lip at the bottom of this panel, just ahead of the leading edge of the boot lid.
The history file contains service invoices dating from 1979 onwards, the mileage being then recorded at 41488 miles, in 1997 at 100531 miles the Aston was subject to an amount of mechanical reconditioning following a period of storage. At this time attention was paid to recommissioning the Weber carburettors, the braking and fuel system, suspension and steering, the sill box sections, inner front splash guards and ABS trunnion mounts were replaced.
In 2013 further bodywork was carried out, with a bare metal respray in Aston Martin tourmaline blue, a new front valance was fitted, and the front bumpers and over riders were rechromed.
Additional mechanical work was carried out including a brake overhaul with new servos and rear callipers. Two new Avon tyres were fitted, and the engine bay was detailed with cam covers and air box powder coated in silver.
This is a well documented Aston Martin Series Three V8, with recent works that presents the car well, whilst it has remained unused for periods of time, it has also in turn been refurbished at each stage, the most recent being the bare metal respray in approximately 2013. As a manual gearbox car, coupled with the preferred Weber carburation, it presents a more desirable option to the more common automatic version.
The chassis and body work had been subject to remedial work firstly in 1997, at 100531 miles, and then during 2013 at 101527 miles, this verified by the invoices ad MOT history. The paintwork presents very well, the interior is original and in very good condition for the age, without any rips or tears to the black leather seats.
In addition to the work previously mentioned, the car has been recently serviced with new oil, plugs, filters, and belts. A new starter motor was also fitted, together with a new battery and battery cut off switch. It is estimated that the car has covered under 1000 since last serviced
