This is one of those ‘Once in a Lifetime’ opportunities.
Here we have for a commissioned sale on behalf of the owner, a 1972 Maserati Indy America (America because it has air conditioning) that is a one owner car with 18,500 miles on the clock. It is a genuine RHD and also comes with the desirable 5-speed manual gearbox.
The current owner, back in the early 70s, was then a Citroen dealer and when Citroen bought Maserati, these cars became available through the Citroen network. The owner bought this car as a 40th birthday present to himself. Now in his late 80s, the owner has stopped driving and this is the first time the car has been put onto the open market.
Used over the years as a mainly ‘high days and holidays’ vehicle – the owner had several other cars to play with – the mileage is correct as far as we can ascertain. We are still waiting for the history files from the family. We do know the car had some work done in around 2013 at Bill McGraths and it was back on the road in 2014. I know this because I had the good fortune to be able to drive in convoy with it to an open day at McLaren.
Since 2014, the car has been used sparingly and recently we have brought it to our workshop where we have cleaned it up, got it starting and driving. Many of the rubber pipes are probably past their best and would benefit from a change, however the under bonnet remains original and at this stage we do not wish to change that. Once the car has a new owner, we would be happy to complete any works that would be required.
The front bumper has a dent that should press out and there is a chip on the leading edge of the bonnet, the carpets show signs of wear and the interior leather - of which there is a lot - could do with a deep clean and possibly a re-connelisation.
To reiterate, this is a largely original, one owner, sub 20,000 mile 5-speed, RHD Maserati Indy America, it would literally be years of searching before another like this will surface onto the open market.
We have ramps available for inspection purposes and ask that serious buyers contact Paul in the first instance. Viewings will be by appointment only.
