On offer this stunning Alfa Romeo 1900 CSS, matching numbers, with very complete maintenance history!
With the 1900 Series Alfa Romeo started a new era. The line was introduced in May 1950, first to a privileged few in Torino and then to the public at the Paris Motor Show of the same year. It was a step away from the very expensive luxury cars to an easier and cheaper model to build and one that could be sold in larger quantities. It was also the first Alfa with a unit-body, but for the rest the cars were typical Alfa Romeo. The four cylinder engine had two overhead camshafts in a cast aluminium head with hemispherical combustion chambers and an output of 90 hp at 5200 rpm.
In 1956 the last version of the Alfa Romeo 1900 was released, the SS (Super Sprint) Coupé with coachwork by Touring of Milan. By now, the engine had increased in capacity to 1975 cm3 and produced now 115 hp at 5500 rpm. With a dry weight of 1000 kg the car was capable of 190 km/h. The five speed fully synchronised gearbox incorporated a floor mounted shift. Big finned aluminium drum brakes, with twin brake shoes at the front were used and therefore the car stood on big 16 inch wheels. The main difference in appearance between this model and the earlier 1900 Turing Coupes was the use of three instead of five windows. Designed as a two-seater with occasional rear seating, a rear window was not considered necessary, as a result the car looked far more sporty. These Coupes were suitable for daily transportation and also did very well in rallies and club racing.
