1992 Saab 900i Exceptionally rare one off car!! For Sale
|Yes you read the title correctly, this started life as 900i 16 Valve Injection SE, and was professionally converted into a Full Pressure Turbo 16 Valve, ie Engine, Gearbox, Suspension etc were all transferred from a T16S!!|
A good friend of mine bought this back in 2015, from a Doctor in Gateshead, who had all the work done, and has pretty much sat in storage ever since!, was then moved to a friendly local garage who were supposed to MOT and and service it back in July 2017 to make it usable again, but never managed to actually do it!!!, This garage has now closed (what a surprise!), it has been collected a new Battery was fitted and it fired up straight away! and has now passed an MOT, it only needed a couple of things for the MOT, mostly unseizing of brakes, a brake caliper, and a new Ball Joint, couple of advisories, Windscreen has a few chips on the passenger side, which is a shame because its an Original SAAB Screen, Headlamp chroming is not perfect, but good enough for the MOT, Engine oil leak (think the Rocker Cover Gasket is weeping), So its now Road Legal!
So what I know about the car, it started life as 900i SE, and in January 2011, at 148k, was converted into a Full Pressure Turbo. The speedo was changed at this point with the one from the donor vehicle showing 101k hence the mileage changes on the MOT History (bear in mind an injection one, would not have a Turbo Boost Gauge). So current Mileage shows 106, so 148 + 5 = 153K in total.
So the list of work that was done comprises of the following, Turbo engine, Gearbox & APC, 2.3 Turbo Flywheel & Clutch, T16 Suspension, MALBRAD Rear Springs, Suspension Bushes, Cruise Control, 9000 Discs & Calipers, Braided Hoses, Front Intercooler, 3 Inch Downpipe.
Since the conversion it has also had, New Timing Chain and Head Gasket, all within the last 3000 Miles!
The car is Finished in Citrin Silver Metallic, with Alpacka Tan Velour, the Headlining has been replaced, Interior is excellent no snags, tears or stains, the seats, door cards and carpets are really very good, The dash is free of any cracks (RARE), all Windows, Mirrors, Sunroof, etc Rear Wash Wipe, and Central Locking seem to be intermittent! all other electrical items work as they should, The only exception is the Air Conditioning which does not appear to be working, could be a Regas?, but not tried. Heated Seats are a bit difficult to check in this weather. It has a new Philips CD Tuner with USB & AUX, the aerial is of a manual retractable style, it works but does not sit at quite the right angle.
The Boot is clean, no stains or dog chewing of side trims or boot floor, the spare wheel well, is also clean with no visible rust, Spare wheel, Jack, Jack Handle and wheel brace etc are there, with the tool kit box still attached.
Exterior is excellent, O/S Front wing has some bubbling, O/S Rear Door has a small rust hole under the window frame (common Problem), Bottoms of the doors are good, cant see any nasty corrosion, Bonnet has some corrosion on the inside, which has just started to show through on the N/S only (again common problem), A couple of very slight parking indentations but no nasty scratches or scuffs, Again is very tidy for its age! All bumpers and extensions are clean, tidy with no scuffs, and all chrome trims are present, all four wheel arch trims have no cracks, One of the gutter trims on the roof is missing. All 15" Genuine Cross Spoke Alloy Wheels are in very good order, with correct centre caps, Tyres are the correct size, 195/60 VR, Continental on the Front, BF Goodrich on the Rear.
I drove it from the previous garage to the MOT station, and it drove very well considering it hasnt been used for some time, yes the brakes were binding. Gearbox was smooth, No grinding, and does not pop out gear, Reverse is good, and it still locks in reverse, Engine pulls smoothly, and boosts strongly, You forget how much fun these are!, the only thing i did notice was the clonk on the O/S Front, which was in fact a ball joint.
Car & Classic will only allow 9 photos, so clearly wont show everything, I have considerably more and will be happy to mail them to you of anything you would like to see within reason, I dont have ramps and am not lying on my back! I strongly encourage viewing prior to purchasing, I think I have described the car accurately, but you may not! and yes im bound to have missed something?
Be realistic this is nearly 27 years old, its not new, and will probably need a little more work to make it a usable daily driver, but hopefully not much, and with a bit more work to the body would make it exceptional!
I have a wad of bills, invoices, Old MOT Certificates, Registration Document, Service Book, Owners Manual & Correct SAAB Wallet, 2 Original SAAB keys.
Its a little tricky to value so will listen to SENSIBLE Offers, Cash or Bank transfer only, and will need to be collected from Camberley, Surrey.
