I've owned it since 2013 and it's slowly had an extensive mechanical restoration. The whole underside of the vehicle has been throughly inspected and treated, with new metal welded in where needed. The underbody, rails and spring platforms are all solid.
All the mechanicals underneath the car have received a comprehensive nut and bolt overhaul. The front subframe has been checked and treated. The suspension has been rebuilt with new parts including IPD bushes and Gaz adjustable dampers all round. All wishbones treated and new ball joints upper and lower. Front hubs rebuilt. Rear axle overhauled and rebuilt. Fuel tank restored and new filler pipe. New brakes front and rear with Goodrich braided hoses. New bushes in steering box with new steering damper and new steering tie rods.
The Amazon was put in for MOT and passed with no advisories. I drove the car locally and now that it was mechanically sound I put it back into dry storage for the bodywork stage. All the new parts have covered total of about 50 miles.
The engine was serviced with new plugs, leads, distributor cap, points, coil, belts and filters. Stromberg carburettor. New fuel pump. Also it has an alternator conversion, the original dynamo is available and can be refitted if so wished.
The bodywork is the main thing to rectify now. It needs the rear arches and lower rear valance repaired. The panels are supplied to do the job. The front wings have been replaced with a much better pair, they have surface rust and structurally sound, just prep and paint needed for them. The rear nearside door has been replaced however it needs more work. The rear upper tailgate has been replaced too.
The interior is complete with dark red seats. The rear bench seat is very good, the back is ok and faded. The front seat backs are good. One of the bases is good. The other needs work or replacement. There's also a spare set of seat cushions for parts.
The wheels are American Racing, pretty rare set of wheels over here. They're in great shape, no kerbing and will polish up nicely if you wanted. The set of original steel wheels with whitewall tyres are included too.
The Amazon is MOT and Tax exempt. A lot of the hard work has been completed and it's a great project for someone to finish off the bodywork. Selling as moving abroad. Over 40 photos available, please message for the link.
The Volvo Amazon was first introduced to the public in 1956 and hit the roads in early 1957. It was ten years later that the 123 GT version was added to the series. It was the most luxurious an sporty.....
