Atlantis A1 FHC.
For sale the first production Atlantis A1 fixed head coupe' in everyday used condition. I am selling this car together with the Atlantis company this will include all the intellectual rights, equipment and brand name of Atlantis
This car, built in 1984, is the first production model of the A1. Sold in 1984 and with its original owner for twenty years. The car was bought back by myself, the original designer in 2004. Although probably only lightly and carefully used, the car has weathered its 36 years remarkably well. The paintwork shows an age related patina but the bodywork is very solid and undamaged. Mechanically the car has had quality work done as required including a stainless steel exhaust system. Receipts are available. MOT's go back to 2006.
The Atlantis A1 dhc and fhc is a French inspired retro style car of the early 1930's. Not a copy but an original design produced from drawings and models. Including such details as mascot and radiator badge. Following original drawings commencing in1978, the Atlantis A1 design was steadily refined. The company was first registered on the 22 April 1980. Construction of the prototype was completed at the end of 1982. A two year testing program was carried out between 1982 and 1983. This included road tests by leading magazines etc. In 1983 the French magazine 'Calandres' featured a half page picture on the front cover. Inside the title 'ATLANTIS' 'LA VOITURE DES PARADIS PERDUS' appeared on the centre spread, together with eight more full colour pages with text inside.
Rigorous testing proved the original design to be sound, only detailing to door seals and other small body details were required for production. The design and build ethos was to build up to a quality rather than down to a price. The chassis/frame is fully stressed for a convertible and the first one of these was produced in 1986.
Produced from 1982 only a limited number of these cars have been built, both in fixed head and convertible form. In 1986 a one off racing version with 454cu in Chevrolet engine was built to special order. Since publishing the Atlantis Motor Company web site several owners of the Atlantis have been in touch and are very enthusiastic about their cars
The Atlantis received huge acclaim in press revues and by professional designers as well as much praise and admiration from the public wherever the cars are seen.
A large amount of interest has been seen lately in the Atlantis car and therefore the decision has been made to sell the company and first production car so that production could recommence with enthusiasm from a new owner. This would be even more viable now than when the car was first produced with major manufacturers producing retro styles. Now that new cars have become so full of technology and characterless efficiency, there is a renewed interest in hand built craftsmanship where gadgets are less important than individuality and style.
All the original jigs, patterns, moulds and drawings are carefully preserved and are available to continue production. Any help and advice required is available to make the project completely successful, from myself, Michael Booth, the original designer.
All intellectual rights to all of the Atlantis car including the very important and valuable brand name of Atlantis are included in the sale, a brand that has been in use and established for almost forty years. Naturally the brand name can be used on future developments and designs of cars giving so many possibilities.
This is a unique opportunity to be involved with one of the most exclusive, prestigious and beautiful cars ever produced and to be able to produce both this and your own designs under the Atlantis name.
In view of the potential of the brand value the price will be subject to discussion and negotiation.
