The 105 series coupes became one of Alfa Romeo’s legends for its mechanical features and striking body design by Giorgetto Giugiaro. His authentic design featured a step in the engine hood often referred to as 'Scalino' which was retained in production until 1967 in the GT/GTV models and 1970 in the GT Junior one. The Junior series applied to those that were interested in the 105 coupes without the larger GT engines. Throughout its 10-year production it received numerous upgrades, some being original to the series such as the ATE brake discs in 1966, brake servo and higher wheel arches in 1967 and others that were carried over from the GT/GTV series. In particular, the introduction of 1750 GTV in 1968 came with substantial revisions including a new twin binnacle instrument panel permitting non-glare viewing of the speedometer and tachometer with fuel and temperature gauges moved to the center console, a remote boot release lever placed from the passenger’s side to the driver’s side, an antiroll bar in the rear suspension and an enlarged wheel size to 4.5x15in. The body also received a facelift that ameliorated the authentic Scalino step in the front hood. These modifications were also incorporated in the Junior model; however the facelift did not until 2 years later in 1970 allowing the Junior cars to retain the authentic look. That decision from Alfa Romeo created a very limited 2-year production of the most mechanically advanced cars in the original Scalino body.
The GT Junior 1.3 featured here was produced as such on July 31st, 1969. According to Alfa Romeo’s records, it was specially ordered in rare Grigio Chiaro Metallizzato with Skai interior for its owner in Rome. In 1999 it was imported in Greece and was stored till 2006. In 2015 the Junior received a 3-year long restoration from classic Alfa Romeo enthusiasts to its former authentic state. It is now offered with a comprehensive restoration file and FIA certification.
