The seats are original and very tidy, some of the upholstery in the front has been recently replaced. It is very clean and has a few age marks but no body rust and generally very clean.
Of these very rare “Limited Edition” Jubilee models, 750 were made, and the majority were exported to America. A number were registered JBU in recognition of the fact it was a Jubilee model so it is the original registration. A plaque was fitted in them showing the name of the original purchaser and the edition number. (Not always).
Manufactured 29th April 1975 for the English home market and has the original plaque “No4”. It was first registered 19th June 1975 confirming it is authentic. A letter from the MG Car club also confirms that the car was likely to be the 4th of this Limited Edition to be registered in UK.
This vehicle has been in the family for eighteen years. It was purchased as a restoration project all those years ago. The restoration, which consisted of inner and outer sills, Part castle section, lower rear half wing panels, new front wings and an engine out, respray. Recently a new starter was fitted.
JBU was selected as an exhibit for MG80 Exhibition at Silverstone, in July 2004 photos of the exhibition and restoration work are all available with the vehicle. Also the exhibition material.
Paper records include photos, MOT and SORN certificates and some tax discs. It was only used in the summer by my wife, stored in the winter away from the salt. It was also stored off the road for some years in a dry garage all wrapped up.
The clock shows 39437 miles, however it is possible the clock was reset or it has done 139437 miles. The MOT clock reading for 1991 is 93551. This is a recorded 1638 miles a year since that time. The engine runs like a sewing machine and does not burn oil. I can only conclude the engine and possibly the gear train must have been rebuilt or replaced at some time before my ownership. It has the original engine number. In its lifetime someone has given this car it a lot of care. If my assessment is correct this car is in remarkable condition for the age.
It comes with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust “Certificate of Authenticity” and lots of paperwork including the original sales brochure (and don’t forget the original plaque).
Reason for sale is that I have three MG’s the latest I have a restored 1957 MGA roadster, I also have 1974 roadster with a heritage body but I can only drive one at a time. As I have to pay for storage since I sold my large garage, one or two have to go. The purchaser can have the option of the B Roadster with a heritage body, if they wish, which is also for sale.
It is a wonderful drive. With the sunshine roof and side windows open it is like being in an open sports car. The advantage is, it does not result in the ladies having their hair blown about and you have the benefit of having a solid top.
