The MGC was produced by the MG Car Company which was then part of BMC and later British Motor Holdings from 1967 through to August 1969 with some sales running on into 1970. The MGC looked very similar to the MGB and certainly shared most of the body panels, chromework, trim and many inner structural members, but there were however obvious and important engineering differences to make the installation of the hefty six cylinder engine possible and changes to the running gear to cope with the extra power.

In its final form the engine developed 145bhp @ 5,200 rpm and 170 lb/ft of torque @ 3,400 rpm which was a 50% increase over the standard 1.8 litre 'B Series' Engine. There was also an all-new full Synchromesh Gearbox which was shared with the new Mark II MGB that was launched at the same time.

The MGC body shell needed considerable revision from the MGB around the engine bay and to the floor pan, but externally the only differences were a distinctive bonnet 'bulge' to accommodate the relocated radiator and a 'teardrop' bulge to give clearance for the carburettors.

It also had uprated Brakes, 15" Wheels, a lower geared Rack and Pinion Steering Rack and special Torsion Bar Suspension with Telescopic Dampers. Like the MGB, it was available as a Coupé and Roadster.

The 2912cc Engine produced 145 bhp (108 kW) at 5,250 rpm and was capable of 120mph and a 0-60 mph time of 10.0 seconds. However, tuning of the under–developed straight six is common and simple modifications to the cylinder head, exhaust and camshaft will release approximately 30% more power and torque than the original.

According the the BMIHT Heritage Certificate, this exemplary 'Matching Numbers example - Chassis No: G-CN1/5766-G, Engine No: 29G-RU-H/3776 was built in Abingdon between 21st - 23rd January 1969 and despatched to MG Dealer H Prosser & Sons Ltd in Glasgow on 27th January and first registered in Glasgow to a Mr Gerard Mack on 9th February 1969 with its current plate GXS 158G. It was also built with the options of Wire Wheels, Overdrive, Pack-Away Hood and a Heater which it retains today.

The first owner - Mr Mack kept the car for 10 years before selling it to the second owner - Mr Minards from Harrow, Middlesex in April 1979 and it had a couple more owners before it was purchased by a Mr Chris Kerlick from West Molesey in Surrey on 5th May 1993.

In the late 1990's he decided to treat the car to a full 'nut and bolt' restoration and rebuild and change of colour from its original Primrose Yellow to British Racing Green and the project took two years to complete. By completion in 2001 it had consumed £26,000 and the result was a truly outstanding car and it won a Concours competition in 2001. Unfortunately many of the bills for this work no longer survive, but there is a CD in the file containing photographs of the whole restoration process.

The most thorough of restorations involved the overhauling or replacement of almost every single component and upon examination you would not have found a second hand nut or bolt anywhere on this car. The attention to detail was flawless and has resulted in a stunning iconic sports car that is now better than when it left the factory.

The interior is unspoiled with original instrumentation and black hide seats with white piping in exceptional condition. The wet weather gear is immaculate since the mohair hood, supports and tonneau are all new, as are the tools. New Chrome everywhere including new 15" Chrome Wire Wheels. You can see from the detail photography that the quality of the craftsmanship and the care that has been taken is justly unrivalled.

The 2912cc Engine is a relatively lazy, under-stressed unit pushing out 145bhp, but it lends itself to simple but effective tuning, so this car has a Gas-Flowed Cylinder Head, Free-Flow Exhaust Manifold, uprated Twin SU HS6 Carburettors and a Fast Road Camshaft which has given this engine a boost in power of at least 40bhp which really does transform its performance.

Mr Kerlick hardly drove the car after completion of these works and he sold it to a Mr Watkins in Pontyclun, Wales in February 2002 with only 58 miles on the speedometer since the rebuild. It was subsequently sold by Sussex Sports Cars in to the current owner in August 2013 at a cost of £29,000 when the car had only covered 4,465 miles since its rebuild.

During his 6 years of ownership, he has maintained the car meticulously and the total mileage since the restoration is now 7,150. He has had various upgrades and maintenance carried out by specialists 'MG Motorsport' in Bovingdon, Hertfordshire and 'Enginuity' in Acton, London W3 and has spent in total a further £17,350 on the car.

Works include a Kenlowe Electric Cooling Fan, Aldon Ignitor Electronic Ignition, new Clutch hydraulics, Polybushed Suspension, new Shock Absorbers, a full Waxoyl of the bodshell, new single 12v Battery conversion, new Michelin Energy 195/65/15 Tyres, New black Mohair Soft top and Tonneau Cover, a full Gearbox rebuild with a new lightened Flywheel and uprated Clutch, Brake hydraulics, a new high ratio Rack & Pinion Steering Rack, new Fuel pump, C-Tek Battery Conditioner, Immobiliser and a 'Tracker' fitted and all invoices for these works are contained in the history file.

The car has an extensive service history dating back to 1985 and the history file contains invoices, MOT Certificates and DVLA MOT history, BMIHT Heritage Certificate, DVLA ownership history from new, MGC Drivers handbook and an MGC Sales Brochure from 1967.

It is fair to say that we have never had an MGC quite like this car and we have certainly never driven one quite like it. We are confident in saying that this car must be up there with the best Concours winning examples anywhere in the world and the best example currently for sale in the UK.

The car is MOT'd until June 2020, although officially exempt now and upon sale it will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty which can be extended and upgraded at additional cost if required.
