This is a genuine fully restored Austin Mini Cooper S Mark 1 originally a 1071,Which has been certified by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (Certificate supplied).The car was built in 1964 and supplied by Mylchneest Motors, Isle Of Man.
This original MK1 was purchased as a 1 owner vehicle and came from the Isle of Man in 2001. It has since been subject to a full professional restoration with bills exceeding £28,000.
Started in 2008 and fished in 2012, the car retains important original features including the 120 MPH Speedo and Cooper S fine details.
The car is finished in its original colour of Old English White, Black roof and complemented with the Red and Gold trim. (not Newton Commercial) and features the original period Microcell Racing Seats designed for extra fit and comfort, these were re-trimmed in the correct period red/brocade as is the rest of the interior.
The car comes with a factory fitted option of a Fresh Air Heater.
What makes this car special is that in 1967 "Alexander Conversions" where instructed to modify the engine to a Cooper S 1275cc Appendix "J" Group 2, so the car could be used for Rallying or Racing, so the engine was exchanged for a 1275cc, although the reg document and Heritage cert still shows the car having a 1071cc so the purists might wish to have the engine changed back to a 1071cc?? ( I can confirm it has never been Rallied or Raced).
This gives the car between 95-105 BHP.
The engine was rebored +0.20 with high compression pistons and rebalanced.The cylinder head has been modified, gas flowed and polished. An upgraded camshaft with special valve springs to suit, Competition clutch plate which has been replaced and C.R gears fitted. Oil cooler and Steel crankshaft pulley fitted.
The two carburettors have been replaced with two 1.½" S.U H4 to run better.
The shock absorbers and suspension were also upgraded at the time, however now replaced with racing koi shocks and suspension struts.
The car has also been converted to run on modern day unleaded petrol.
It still has the original brake servo and Aero quip brake and fuel lines
It also comes with the original speedo and period Smiths rev-counter.
I bought the car 3years ago with all this work completed and the person who restored the car has documented everything that has been carried out and there is a lot more to that has been done...too much to list!
As you can appreciaite I have a large file including receipts some photos of the restoration too.
It also features microcell racing seats which have been re-trimmed in the original stock material.
The car has the twin tanks for endurance racing including the Monza quick flip caps!
The wheels are the original 4 ½ J Cooper "S" vented rims with Dunlop Sport SP 165 x 70 x 10 Aqua Jet Tyres, including the spare!
The current mileage is showing 10410, so I suspect its on it second time around....110410 be more accurate, however I still couldn't verify that.
I bought it with 9838 on the clock and the longest single journey has been is to the Goodwood Revival and back.....Twice!
The car has recently had an service to which a problem was found with one of the carburettors where one of the floats was letting fuel in,so both floats were replaced and both carburettors being rebalanced.
I am the fourth registered owner.
As I explained I bought the car with all this work completed by the previous owner and as I am not technically minded please be patient when you ask me any detailed questions, however I will do my best to answer them.
