1961 Jaguar Mk2 3,4 Saloon, Manual/Overdrive/PAS For Sale

1961 Jaguar Mk2 3.4 Saloon Manual/Overdrive/PAS.
Very desirable spec. Manual/Overdrive, PAS, Wire Wheels.

A matching numbers example of one of the greatest saloon cars of all time, the compact Jaguar MkII finished in Opalescent Blue with cream leather interior, polished Walnut Burr trim.

Will let the above pictures speak for themselves.

The Jag has recently been professionally tuned and is very fast for a 3,4 variant, the speediest we have ever handled.

Lots of money spent on it over the years (over £10,000 in last 6 months alone) The history file mentions recon gearbox and overdrive, engine overhaul, re-cored radiator, brake, suspension, SU’s overhauled and lots more besides. Recent improvements - woodwork restoration, new front and rear chrome bumpers and overiders. During the restoration it was found that there was some corrosion to the bottom of the doors so all four were removed, the effected areas cutaway and new steel sections fabricated and seamlessly welded in.

Specification:-
3,4 manual gearbox with overdrive.
Power steering.
Chrome wire wheels.
Coombs style rear spats.
Motolite wood rim steering wheel.
Negative earth conversion.
Alternator.
Stainless steel exhaust.
Kenlowe fan.
Electronic ignition.
Front seatbelts
Leather upholstered cream interior with blue piping
New wool headlining

Owner’s toolkit present (and complete) in the spare wheel well. Original hand tools. Good tyres all round, including spare.

Comes with Owner’s Manual, V5, Owner’s Toolkit, Hand tools, Old MOT Certificates, Old tax discs. Heritage Certificate. MOT to June 2020. Big pile of invoices confirming regular maintenance.

The car has been historically recorded as Cat D (Damaged repairable) following an insurance claim pursuant to a garage water leak, however, as mentioned above it has been fully restored and I offer this Jaguar today with any trial or inspection at a bargain price. Model History

Rarely do cars given a facelift look as good as the models they are intended to replace, but with the Mk2, Jaguar put paid to that particular theory. William Lyons, whilst not a trained draughtsman, was a bit more hands-on than most men in his position when it came to the final design of his beloved Jaguars. At one point the team in the drawing office developing the later XJS, were left 'twiddling their thumbs' until Sir William was happy with the rear-end and it wasn't until Stan Keyworth managed to scrounge a Ferrari Dino 246GT and dropped it up to the Lyons family home on Gibbet Hill that the matter was resolved. The car was parked outside the bay window of the breakfast room for Sir William to stare at and 'Hey Presto' the back of the XJS came into being (have a look at a Dino and an early XJS). And so it was with the Mark 2, which was altogether a more modern and stylish car with a brighter interior and more balanced looks that most of us still admire. The 3.4 and 3.8 were the super-saloons of their day-with the 3.8 being the fastest saloon in the world at the time. The Jaguar Mk2 saloon was voted 'Car of the Year' when launched in 1959 and would form the mainstay of Jaguar's saloon production until 1967.

Later versions were reduced in price but the economies of the new 240 and 340 models came at a cost – the leather upholstery was replaced by Ambla leather-like material and tufted carpet was used on the floor—though both had been introduced on the Mark 2 a year earlier. Other changes included the replacement of the front fog lamps with circular vents and optional fog lamps for the UK market. The sales price was reduced to compete with the Rover 2000 TC.

'One of the most impressive sights today is the rapid and purposeful progress of a Mark 2 Jaguar on a motorway, eating up the miles in the fast lane. Like the nose of a bullet, the rounded frontal shape looks right for high speed, and the sheer velocity attained is usually exhilarating.' - Autocar June 1964
