1971 Elan Sprint FHC Gold Leaf Colours
This is a beautiful original factory Elan Sprint in correct gold leaf colours.
Lotus replacement chassis in excellent condition, engine rebuilt less than 7000 miles ago, TTR suspension less than 1000 miles ago.
Although a RHD car it was imported in to France in 1984 by a Parisian garage who sold it to a Parisian owner who kept it until 2015 whereupon it was sold to another French Lotus enthusiast in central France who made numerous improvements including fitting a new Tony Thompson Racing kit (coils, springs and all the bushes – see photo). He also overhauled the wiring loom and fitted new seals to doors, windows, windscreen, new big bore stainless steel exhaust, new electric twin radiator fans, new Powerlite starter motor, Airbox kit, Electronic ignition before it returned to the UK in 2016. This last French owner did the major improvement work assuming he was going to keep the car but his desire to own a big Healey overtook him and as I was selling a LHD 100/6 we did an exchange of cars. The car is now re-registered in the UK with its original UK registration.
Paintwork is generally very good with some minor imperfections and the dashboard is nicely patined.
It has the correct specification big valve engine on twin 40DCOE Webers although the block has been replaced at some point with one from an earlier Elan.
Just after arriving in France and whilst still on its UK registration it was featured in a French car magazine – original magazine to be supplied with the car.
Original factory Elan Sprints are rare cars with one reference quoting 1,353 having been built out of a total Elan production of 12,224. Other references give numbers even less than this owing to Lotus serial numbers not always being entirely sequential. Either way with many cars not surviving over the years the number of Sprints on the road today worldwide is probably somewhere in the low hundreds.
A great investment therefore and certainly one of the best sporting driving experiences you can have at any price.
