1934 MG PA Supercharged. Ex Jack Bastock 'Cream Cracker 2' For Sale

Ex MG Works/ Ex Jack Bastock

1934 MG P-Type Supercharged Cream Cracker Team Car

Registration number: JB 3854

Chassis number: PA 0682

Arguably the most successful pre and post war MG. The V5c confirms registration and chassis numbers and historic status.

JB 3854 was first registered on 15th May 1934 to the MG Car Company Competitions Department and was used for developmental work and was run at Brooklands, Donington Park and other venues as a Team A P-Type Midget. Jack Bastock purchased the car from the MG Company winning a gold medal in the Exeter Trial. In 1935 it appeared as a Cream Cracker, forming part of the official MG Car Club `A` team of three cars painted brown and cream , competing as Cream Cracker II. Bastock, along with the other two MG drivers, complained of the extra weight of their `P`s` compared to their previous J2`s . Modifications therefore by the Competitions Department during this time included the fitment of a Centric supercharger, cycle wings and an aluminium bonnet to JB 3854 which remain to this day.

A massive file of its competition successes accompanies the car which includes competing at Brooklands in the MCC High Speed Trial together with period photographs and intriguing letters to and from the MG Car Company and their Competitions Department.

The car has been owned by many well known MG enthusiasts including Stephen Dear who recommissioned the car in the 1970`s, reuniting it with it`s original registration number and proving what a potent car it is in rallies and trials. The car was rebuilt using the services of Bruce Bellamy for the aluminium body and Gordon Allen for crank and rods. The Centric supercharger was rebuilt in 2001 and the car has subsequently won a Silver on the MCC Exeter. This car has competed almost continuously since new and is still very usable today on the events for which it was intended.

An extremely rare opportunity to acquire a historically significant pre war MG with marvellous history evidenced by a myriad of photographs, period letters to and from the factory plus articles in many magazines together with newsreel and video.

JB 3854 will provide the next custodian with a very important collector’s car which has an outstanding competition history.

Road registered, this super car will be welcomed in a vast array of historic events; be they trials, hill climbs, rallies or racing.

Serious enquiries welcome for this historic motorcar.
