This car started life as a MGB GT in 1974 although as you can see it has a personalised 1967 reg plate and is licensed as such (NO ROAD TAX).
In 1995 the car was converted to have the Sebring look by a previous owner in Cardiff where it had the following upgrades to the bodywork.
• Sebring front and rear valances
• Sebring bubble arches
• MGC bonnet
• Aston petrol filler
• Period spots
• Stainless steel mesh grille
• Sunroof (now removed)
• New updated Red Spray Paint
Engine, Suspension & Gearbox
In 2007 the car was purchased by Tim Fenna at Frontline developments for his own personal use where he added the following upgrades.
• Frontline Developments Suspension front and rear, i.e. double wishbones, coils and adjustable telescopic shock absorbers at front, and five-link trailing arm and Panhard rod arrangement at the rear with coil-over shock absorbers.
Prior to Frontline owning the car the previous owner added the following.
• Rover 3.9 litre V8 giving about 265bhp/ stage 2 Cam and Heads
• Five speed LT77 gearbox
• MG V8 rear axle
• Front brakes are Wilwood four-pot calipers with yellow stuff pads, rear drums
• 205 x 15 alloy minilite rims on Yokohama A8 tyres. (205/65 R15 99 H)
• Cobra bucket seats
• Rear anti-roll bar
• Fire extinguisher
• OMP 13" steering wheel
• Sunroof (now removed)
• Electric windows
• Stainless Steel Exhaust
The car has recently had a full body restoration (2017-2019) with windows out by SWB Bodyworks as exterior was looking tired and needed updating, last update was in 1995 when converted to Sebring look. The respray is welcome to any inspection, it is first class. It has been fully treated with Raptor underseal underneath to keep rust free, this was carried out after the respray by SWB Autos. This car also used to have a sunroof but that has now been replaced with a new OEM roof skin when respray undertaken. It also has new floor pans on both sides. I have also added a brand-new dash and harness seats belts plus new carpets and headlining so the interior is as fresh as the exterior. The interior was fully primed and sealed and sound deletion materials added (can send photos of resto upon request). Car has been sprayed in Milano Red. I haven't put the white roundels back on the car out of personal choice but these can be added for extra cost to finish off the 'Sebring' look.
The speedo/dials were replaced by previous owner so now you have retro dials but with electronic mileage. I have also added a USB port inside the arm rest. Car also was also serviced at renowned MG specialist Fisher Services in Kent where it had full service and other repairs totalling £1100 (ring for more info on this) before the restoration. Since the restoration was complete the engine has had further work undertaken with full engine flush and a tune up with all fluids and plugs replaced.
In my time of ownership i have used it mainly on dry weekends for country runs into Essex and also summer evenings.
House purchase forces very reluctant sale. Having owned an 84 Carrera SSE prior to this, I can honestly say this is better in every way. The LT77 gearbox has short shift and is smooth and precise. The engine pulls hard in every gear and quite happily revs when you want to take it through the gears. Handling with the upgraded suspension and tyres really plants the car into the road, it was set-up by Frontline for personal use so you know it will handle as it should. The upgraded brakes are very much needed and work perfectly with the drums on the back preventing skid if you need to make an abrupt stop. Really this car is only two leather seat away from being a GT cruiser.
All in all, this is a fantastic car that will only appreciate in value. Nine times out of ten you will be stopped at petrol stations, in the street and generally anywhere you take it, people want to talk about it or take pictures, it always gets a smile.
If you want to test drive bring your insurance papers, if you want to bring a mechanic to look it over no problem.
