For sale is my 1936 MG TA in excellent restored condition. This is an early TA being chassis number TA 0312 which makes it the 61st TA off the production line.
The car was manufactured on 22nd July 1936 and was sold on 4th August 1936 by The North Road Garage (Welwyn) Limited, Welwyn-By-Pass, Hertfordshire. It received the Hertfordshire registration number BUR 754, which it still retains today. The suppliers enameled badge for The North Road Garage is attached to the dashboard. Sadly no early history is known but by the 1960's and 1970's it was in Scotland.
The totally dismantled remains of the MG were purchased from Scotland in 1983 and moved to Suffolk where it was totally restored to concours condition over the following 7 years. The restorer spent so much time and money on the MG it cost him his marriage! However, the quality of his restoration was so good that he went on to restore other MG cars for other owners. The MG was sold in 2002 and moved to Norfolk, but spent much time at the new owners home in France. In 2010 he bought a left hand drive MG TF which was more practical in France. This TA was then sold to a new owner but he never drove it during his two year ownership. I purchased the car in May 2012 from Brown and Gammons, MG specialists. Since then I have driven the MG over 6000 miles.
The car's restoration was completed in 1990 and has covered just over 12,000 miles since then. The car remains in excellent condition. in 2009 the car underwent major mechanical work by Brown and Gammons following a problem with a cracked block and very poor work by another MG specialist earlier that year. After cast iron welding to the block the engine was totally rebuilt including new liners and standard size pistons, all new white metal bearings, rebuilt distributor, and much more, The highly detailed invoices amount to £9.108.73! Also in 2009 the rear axle was rebuilt by Brown and Gammons with new crown wheel and pinion. This cost £2,631.27. In December 2009 Brown and Gammons rebuilt the gearbox which cost £1,322.50. So the car is in excellent mechanical condition.
Everything works including the electric clock! The front tyres are new and the rears are in excellent condition. The car comes with a new full tonneau cover, half tonneau cover (as in the pictures), hood and side screens.
Prices of MG T Types seem to have dropped in the past year so the car is priced at less than I paid for it over 7 years ago.
